“Actors,” Daniel Day- Lewis said once, “should never give interviews. Once you know what colour socks they wear, you’ll remember it next time you see them performing, and it will get in the way. It is not in anyone’s interest.”

Director Jim Sheridan is wearing purple socks today. The film about which he is about to give a two-hour interview, featured Day-Lewis as Christy Brown.
