Land prices even more ‘volatile’ than houses over past 25 years, says ESRI study

Land prices increased at a faster pace than houses during the Celtic tiger, and fell by more during the crash

While the price of houses has fluctuated hugely over the last 25 years, land prices have been even more volatile, according to a study by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI).

Researchers examined the price of residential land in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway since the start of the century, and came to the surprising conclusion that they were even more up-and-down than house prices in that period.
