Over a year ago I warned developers and occupiers of new houses and apartments to be wary of problems developing with the use of heat pumps to heat properties and provide hot water.

Heat pumps are a relatively new technology here and are required in order to achieve an A rating for energy efficiency under our building regulations. Almost all of the 30,000 or so new houses and apartments built each year incorporate a heat pump.
