Tim Henman spots Alexander Zverev copying Novak Djokovic with non-white Wimbledon garment

Alexander Zverev raised eyebrows when he took to the court with new strapping at Wimbledon.

Tim Henman called out Alexander Zverev for copying Novak Djokovic when the German took to Centre Court wearing a grey knee brace.

The No. 4 seed fell and injured himself during his third-round match against Cameron Norrie on Saturday and has now taken extra precautions for his contest with Taylor Fritz.

And Henman joked that Djokovic will have supplied the light grey garment, as the 24-time Grand Slam winner has also been sporting non-white knee strapping.

Clare Balding noticed that Zverev had taken measures to protect his knee after his recent scare. "Zverev wasn't wearing that knee brace was he on Saturday?" she asked during BBC coverage.

"No absolutely not," Henman replied. "But that is the result of the bad fall against Norrie when he was moving forward for a drop shot and he really had a heavy tumble, sort of hyperextended his left knee."

Several players have required extra knee support at Wimbledon this fortnight, including Djokovic who has been wearing a grey brace. And Henman joked that Zverev was sporting the same one. "And I think I’m right in saying Novak Djokovic supplied him with that knee brace so fingers crossed there's not going to be another issue," he added.

Day Six: The Championships - Wimbledon 2024

Wimbledon has a strict, all-white dress code. And Djokovic took care to check whether he was allowed to wear a darker knee brace ahead of his first-round match. But he's not the only one breaking the colour scheme as Frances Tiafoe sported black strapping in the same area.

"I did check. I actually just met chairwoman just before walking onto the court. She gave me thumbs up, so it was okay. Of course, we did check in the days prior if we have a permission. We're trying to find a white one, trust me," the world No. 2 said of his grey sleeve.

"I saw Frances Tiafoe played, he had actually a black color sleeve. Grey, I think it's maybe slightly better towards the white. Yeah, I know it's not ideal. I like to go all white and I like to respect the rules. But I got the permission. I said to them that I will give our best for next match the white one."

Djokovic has been wearing his brace throughout the tournament as he underwent knee surgery last month after withdrawing from the French Open. But Zverev only picked up his injury on Saturday when he chased down a ball and slipped on court, colliding with the umpire's chair.

Speaking after he overcame the scare to beat Norrie in three sets, the 27-year-old said: "My knee went too straight. I overstretched it. Is that how you call it? I do have pain right now. I will check it. I will see what the MRI says. But I personally don't think that it can be anything too serious because I still played. Of course, I was limited. I feel like in some of the movements.

"If you're breaking a ligament or breaking something else, the meniscus or something like that, I don't think you can continue playing even the way I did, so... We'll see what it is. Hopefully I'll be fine in two days' time."
