Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard's incredible run at Wimbledon came to a crushing end as he ran out of steam in the fourth round. Mpetshi Perricard, who stands at 6ft 8" tall, is a serving supremo and entered the men's singles draw as a lucky loser.

But he was beaten 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 by Italian Lorenzo Musetti on Court 2 on Monday afternoon.

The 21-year-old lost to Maxime Janvier in the final round of qualifying and had to wait for a dropout to enter the draw.

Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina pulled up injured before his first-round clash and Perricard was handed the daunting task of taking on No.20 seed Sebastian Korda.

The youngster proved his worth and served a remarkable 51 aces as he blasted to a five-set win.

Mpetshi Perricard then took apart Yoshihito Nishioka and Emil Ruusuvuori to book his place in the second week.

But he had a serving disaster-class against Musetti, delivering eight doubles faults as he bowed out with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 loss.

Mpetshi Perricard's serve pace averaged 126.8mph, way above Musetti's 111mph, but it was his accuracy that let him down.

He delivered just 10 aces, which is much lower than his previous matches. Crucially, he won just 53 per cent of his second serve points.

Speaking after the win, No.25 seed Musetti became emotional as he paid tribute to his family.

“It's tough for me to get emotional but I think today I will. I've been dreaming of this moment since I was a kid," he said.

"I always had a beautiful family who supported me in chasing my dream, it’s tough to speak sorry.

“It's such a big day for me and I'm really happy and proud of this win against a tough opponent. I struggled a little at the beginning against a big serve. I’m a little bit shaking still but at the end it's a really phenomenal day for me.”
