Wimbledon day eight could throw up some further shocks after several surprise exits on day seven. The women’s singles draw, in particular, has been thrown wide open following defeats for Emma Raducanu, Coco Gauff and Paula Badosa.

Reigning champion Iga Swiatek had already gone in the third round at the Championships. Elena Rybakina is the only woman remaining in the women’s singles draw who has won the Grand Slam.

The fourth round of the men’s singles takes centre stage today. Novak Djokovic faces Holger Rune, while Taylor Fritz is up against Alexander Zverev.

Goodnight

That's all we've got time for this evening.

Thanks for joining us to follow the latest updates on day eight of Wimbledon.

We'll be back in the morning, with the likes of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in action tomorrow.

Catch you then!

Novak Djokovic fumes at Wimbledon crowd

Novak Djokovic was clearly rattled by the Wimbledon crowd in his post-match interview after beating Holger Rune.

He refused to accept the excuse that fans were cheering for his opponent, instead suggesting that he was being booed.

Copying their tactic, he said: "To all those people that have chosen to disrespect the player, in this case me, have a 'goooood' night.

"I can't accept it.I know they were cheering for Rune but that’s an excuse also to boo. Listen, I’ve been on the tour for more than 20 years so I know all the tricks.

"I know how it works. It’s fine, it's okay. There's some respectful people who paid for a ticket to come and watch tonight and they love tennis and appreciate the players.

"I've played in much more hostile environments, trust me. You guys can't touch me."

Novak Djokovic sees off Holger Rune in straight sets

Novak Djokovic is safely through to the Wimbledon quarter-finals after securing a 6-3 6-4 6-2 win over Holger Rune.

It was comfortable in the end for the Serb, who turned on the style to keep his Danish opponent at arm's length.

Rune had the backing of the Centre Court crowd but was no match for Djokovic, who will face Alex de Minaur in the last eight.

"I'm very pleased," said Djokovic in his on-court interview.

"I don't think he played anywhere close to his best, to be honest. He lost the first 12 points and I think it got to him mentally.

"On my end, I think I've done things in the right way in important moments. I stayed solid. It could have looked different if I dropped those service games but in the end, a very solid performance."

Crowd mix-up baffles Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic wrongly thought he was beeing jeered by the crowd during the second set of his match against Holger Rune.

He thought chants of 'Ruuuneee!' were boos directed at him and looked angrily around the stands at Centre Court.

Djokovic then held out his arms as if to ask why he was getting such treatment.

BBC commentator John McEnroe was quick to clarify matters, saying: "They're not booing, they're saying 'Rune'. Djokovic is confused by that.

"He thinks he's being booed which he absolutely isn't. The crowd are just trying to keep the young guy in it."

Novak Djokovic in control against Holger Rune

Novak Djokovic is already a set up against Holger Rune on Centre Court.

The Serb looks to be moving freely in spite of his recent injury concerns and breezed through the opening set by six games to three.

Djokovic promised 'fireworks' before today's match but it will be over very quickly if he keeps going like this.

Taylor Fritz battles back to beat Alexander Zverev

Taylor Fritz has just fought back from two sets down to beat Alexander Zverev and reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals.

Zverev made a flying start to the match and was just one set away from victory after claiming the first two sets.

Fritz, however, was in no mood to lie down and accept defeat.

He ended up winning the next three sets, including a crucial tiebreak in the fourth, to book his place in the last eight.

Andy Murray petition gathers pace

A petition calling for a road near Wimbledon to be renamed in honour of Andy Murray is approaching 200 signatures.

Sportswear brand Castore have launched a campaign for Church Road to be renamed Murray Mile as a tribute to the British tennis icon.

Tom Beahon, co-founder of Castore, said: "Andy’s legacy is unequalled. His desire to compete and push himself beyond his limits in order to win is inspiring.

"It only makes sense that the SW19 site where he achieved greatness should immortalise his excellence. As an ambassador and investor, he embodies our 'better never stops' mentality both on and off the court.

"We hope the public join us in celebrating his achievements with a permanent legacy."

Emma Raducanu left red-faced by Ben Shelton

Ben Shelton believes it would have been 'selfish' of him to withdraw from his doubles commitments alongside Mackenzie MacDonald.

It comes just days after Emma Raducanu pulled out of the mixed doubles, where she was due to partner Andy Murray.

Speaking last night, Shelton said: "I signed up for it. I signed up to play doubles yesterday. Played two extra sets after my singles match, and that's my decision.

"I think a lot of people probably would have pulled out of doubles in that situation, but I didn't want to do that to my partner.

"He's been waiting around for four, four and a half days to play doubles with me. I'm not just going to pull out on the guy. I think it's a selfish thing to do. Just kind of wasn't raised that way."

Alex de Minaur beats Arthur Fils despite injury scare

Alex de Minaur is into the Wimbledon quarter-finals after playing through the pain to beat Arthur Fils in four sets.

The Aussie struggled with a back issue for most of the fourth set and was seen moving gingerly on the way to his courtside chair.

"I definitely made it a lot harder than I should have," said De Minaur in his post-match interview.

"I'm happy to get through, great job mentally to get through it, even though I couldn't serve at the end.

"I couldn't hold my serve, I just backed my return and I'm very happy with that. It's just onto the next."

De Minaur will face either Novak Djokovic or Holger Rune in the last eight on Wednesday.

Daniil Medvedev sends Jannik Sinner warning

Daniil Medvedev has warned Jannik Sinner that he usually steps up his game against players at the top of the world rankings.

The Russian will face Sinner in the quarter-finals tomorrow and seems to fancy his chances of springing a surprise.

"I think, if I'm not mistaken, that statistically I usually play better against world No 1s," said Medvedev.

"Let's see if it helps me against Jannik. His serve wasn't as good before. Small details make a big difference in tennis.

"It's definitely harder to play against him now than before. Again, as I said, the matches were close. I had my chances. I'll try to take better advantage of them this time."

Anna Kalinskaya retires with wrist injury

Anna Kalinskaya has retired from her match against Elena Rybakina.

She seemed to suffer a wrist injury in the second set and has now withdrawn from the tournament.

Alex De Minaur storms into the lead

Alex De Minaur has taken an early break in the third set after winning the second.

He screamed "Come on!" as he headed back to his seat.

A wimbledon quarter-final is in his grasp...

Around the courts

Action is well underway on day eight at Wimbledon.

Alex De Minaur is set up against Arthur Fils on Court 1.

Elena Rybakina is serving for the first set against Anna Kalinskaya.

Both matches come after Lorenzo Musetti ended Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard's wonderful Wimbledon run.

Emma Raducanu decision compared to Rishi Sunak gaffe

GB News presenter Anne Diamond has compared Emma Raducanu's withdrawal from her mixed doubles matches with Andy Murray to Rishi Sunak leaving D-Day commemorations early.

“I’m shattered by it, I really am,” said Diamond.

“Just speaking as a fan, I was really looking forward to it. I also see it as a giant snub from a young girl, who has got a future ahead of her, yes, but he is the king of Wimbledon.

“I’m not rooting for her anymore. I’m so sorry, I was yesterday.

“I was so keen and absolutely behind her, and now this. To me, this is like Rishi Sunak going back from the D-Day beaches early. I think it’s unforgivable.”

Emma Raducanu ranking set to rise

Emma Raducanu will sees a seismic rise in her WTA ranking following her Wimbledon heroics.

The British star matched her best performance at SW19 by reaching the fourth round.

Raducanu ultimately lost against Lulu Sun on Sunday but had climbed up to 92 in the rankings before the match.

She has spent much of the last year outside of the top 200 after undergoing three separate surgeries on her wrists and ankle.

When is Novak Djokovic due to play?

Novak Djokovic has defied some pre-Wimbledon expectations by reaching the fourth round.

The Serb underwent surgery on a knee issue in the aftermath of the French Open earlier this summer, having also struggled for form.

It was predicted that Djokovic would miss Wimbledon - but here he is, in the fourth round.

A seven-times Wimbledon champion, the 37-year-old is due to face Holger Rune at 4:45pm.

Carlos Alcaraz reacts to win

Carlos Alcaraz overcame Ugo Humbert in four sets on Sunday.

The reigning champion seemed relatively comfortable, save for a 6-1 loss in the third set in which he struggled to find rhythm.

He reflected afterwards: “Unbelievable, I guess.

“I felt great playing today. I felt I played to a really high level.

“I just try to fight every ball, every point. It doesn’t matter which part of the court I am. Just to give myself the chance to still be alive in the point. I fight until the last point – just to fight.”

Judy Murray responds after 'astonishing' remark

Judy Murray insists she was being sarcastic and actually criticising the scheduling after tweeting 'astonishing' in the aftermath of Emma Raducanu's mixed doubles withdrawal.

Tennis commentator Marcus Buckland posted that it was ‘astonishing’ that Raducanu had withdrawn from playing with Andy Murray in what would have been the two-time champion’s final Wimbledon match.

Buckland made no mention of the scheduling. He said: “Astonishing news that Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her mixed doubles match with Andy Murray. She’s citing soreness in her right wrist.

“It means Murray has played his last match at Wimbledon. Oh dear!”

Murray simply responded: “Yes, astonishing.”

The mother of tennis stars Andy and Jamie subsequently locked her X account.

She posted again on Sunday claiming: “Not sure anyone understands sarcasm these days.

“Pretty sure the scheduling (4th match court 1 with a singles following day) will have played a major part in any decision making.”

Wimbledon weather report

Fingers are crossed for a relatively dry day at Wimbledon.

The Met Office expects only a 20 per cent chance of rain until 8pm, with most of the action squeezed in before then.

Carlos Alcaraz responds to Emma Raducanu's mixed doubles withdrawal

Carlos Alcaraz insists Emma Raducanu did what most tennis stars would do by pulling out of Wimbledon mixed doubles with Andy Murray over a wrist problem.

Raducanu cited stiffness in her wrist for pulling out of the match, which was scheduled for late on Saturday evening.

Alcaraz said: “Well, it is a difficult situation. I'm not going to lie. Obviously she said she was going to play mixed doubles against Andy Murray, his last Wimbledon of his career.

“But obviously she's young. I'm sure that she didn't want to pull out from the mixed doubles. I think she had her reasons to do it. I guess physical problems.

“I don't know. I mean, she's facing the fourth round of a Grand Slam, Wimbledon. I think it is special for her playing here in England.

“I'm sure that a lot of players who is in her positions could do the same thing as she [did]. But obviously knowing it's his last Wimbledon of Andy Murray, is difficult to deal with [for him].”

Emma Raducanu responds to Judy Murray

Emma Raducanu has finally responded to perceived criticism from Judy Murray.

The British star controversially pulled out of playing mixed doubles with Andy Murray just hours before she was due to play in the two-time Wimbledon champion’s final Wimbledon match.

Judy had called it ‘astonishing’ on social media but later insisted she meant the scheduling, claiming nobody understood she was being sarcastic.

While Raducanu insisted she had been unaware of the reaction to her withdrawal, she said of Murray’s words after her defeat against Lulu Sun on Sunday: "I'm sure she didn't mean it.”

Coco Gauff says Wimbledon fans have been ‘disrespectful’

Coco Gauff says tennis fans are sometimes ‘disrespectful’ towards lower-ranked players.

The American fell in the fourth round at Wimbledon, defeated by Emma Navarro.

Gauff was one of the last remaining high-seeded players in the draw. The 20-year-old was asked if that added pressure against Navarro.

“Not really,” she responded. “Because I’ve seen and played so many slams where anybody can win.

“And the seed is just a number. It’s just an advantage so you don’t play another seed first round. It doesn’t mean you can’t lose. We’ve seen how a lot of seeds drop out. We’ve seen defending champions drop out.

“It means nothing. I think especially on my side of the draw.. even though the players might not be as known they’re still talented. I think that’s something that people… fans of the game are a little bit disrespectful when it comes to other players on tour.
