BBC cut sound during England's win over Switzerland after Gary Lineker incident

The BBC were forced to take drastic action during England's Euro 2024 match.

Gary Lineker revealed that he was the reason why the BBC cut sound from their studio pundits celebrating England's penalty shoot-out victory over Switzerland.

Moments after Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the decisive spot-kick to book the Three Lions' place in a semi-final against either Holland or Turkey, Lineker alongside Rio Ferdinand, Micah Richards and Frank Lampard gazed over footage of England fans celebrating the win.

Coverage showed supporters cheering and going wild inside the stadium and at fan events such as BOXPARK in England, before footage then cut to the four ex-internationals celebrating in their studio.

Richards curiously brought up how all the other clips had sound but there was no volume from when the pundits watched Alexander-Arnold find the back of the net from 12 yards.

But Lineker was able to explain that the Beeb may have opted against doing so because the host "dropped some F-bombs" during the jubilant scenes.

Lineker could perhaps be forgiven for getting carried away while watching Alexander-Arnold seal England's place in the Euro 2024 semi-finals, having endured plenty of spot-kick heartache with his national team over the years.

All five England takers found the back of the net as Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Ivan Toney scored before Alexander-Arnold, after captain Harry Kane was forced off with injury during extra-time.

The skipper has since confirmed that he will be back for the final four, insisting he had just picked up some cramp in his high after he was sent into the advertisement boards by Manuel Akanji before the Manchester City defender missed the only penalty from either side.

Monaco striker Breel Embolo initially gave Switzerland the lead in the 75th minute, prompting Gareth Southgate into a triple substitution that breathed life into what had been another drab England performance until that point.

Minutes later, Saka sent the game to extra-time as the Arsenal winger equalised from the edge of the area, putting the seal on his Player of the Match performance before also delivering from 12 yards.
