Sergio Perez makes Red Bull contract statement after British Grand Prix nightmare
Sergio Perez's nightmare run of form took another negative twist at the British Grand Prix on Sunday.
Sergio Perez has explained that he 'knows where he is' with his Red Bull contract after finishing P17 at the British Grand Prix. The Mexican is reportedly at risk of losing his seat mid-season following a tumultuous run of form in 2024.
The 34-year-old headed into this weekend's Grand Prix at rock bottom having failed to record a finish higher than seventh in a five-race stretch. Almost inexplicably, at Silverstone matters got even worse.
Qualifying set a negative tone for the weekend. Perez found the gravel with eight minutes remaining in Q1, beaching his RB20 and condemning him to a P19 starting grid slot. Red Bull then used this failure as an opportunity to add to his power unit component allocation, so the Mexican started from the pit lane.

Come race day, Perez's afternoon was effectively over before the halfway mark. Along with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, Checo's crew opted to gamble on intermediate tyres, but after losing huge chunks of time lap after lap, he soon found himself a lap down.
This was a disastrous result for the six-time Grand Prix winner. According to a string of reports, he is now at risk of losing his seat during the summer break with Daniel Ricciardo allegedly on standby.

However, Checo remains focused. “I know where I am in terms of contract and that sort of thing,” he explained after the race at Silverstone. “I cannot let it be a distraction. I need to focus on the next two weekends, which are the priority, and together as a team, to get out of this difficult period.”
If Perez does fail to improve, Ricciardo will be chomping at the bit to secure a return to Red Bull. Discussing the rumours ahead of the race, he said: “I would never make any predictions in this sport. I feel like every year that this sport goes on, the more it gets.

“I know it goes in the trend of the sport is getting bigger. It’s becoming more Hollywood, so to speak, in terms of the profile the sport has and also the narrative that runs with the sport now and certainly more Hollywood in terms of it’s so unpredictable.
“So do I have any proof that I’ll be anywhere else? I do not. Crazy things happen but I am certainly not in a place to say that or think that or predict that so try and keep doing my thing. Obviously, today wasn’t the case.
“But again, I know, not to completely just point the finger, but I felt like there wasn’t much more I could do with the situation we put ourselves in.”
