Meghan Markle is growing "increasingly concerned" that her life is "not going in the direction she had planned", a royal expert has claimed, amid public ambivalence about her new projects.

Since stepping down as a senior working member of the Royal Family in 2020, Meghan Markle has tried her hand at a number of projects with varying degrees of success.

Royal Author, Tom Quinn, told the Mirror: "There is a growing rift between Harry and Meghan caused by Meghan’s increasing concern that her life is not going in the direction she had planned."

He added: "She loves media attention and hates the fact that surveys suggest she and Harry are no longer of much interest to the American public."

Last summer, Meghan Markle's deal with the streaming giant, Spotify, collapsed, with an executive, Bill Simmons, calling Meghan and Harry "grifters" on his own show after it was announced the Sussexes would cease working with the company.

The comments led to a royal expert Christine Ross telling US Weekly it was "uncommon" for representatives to make these accusations. She said: "It’s really, really uncommon for representatives from a company to make these comments…even if you do see these things, usually the company, the organisation says 'this doesn’t represent our viewpoints' and that sort of thing."

However, Meghan has decided to pursue her audio projects by signing up to media company Lemonada, but the podcast series in the works has been postponed until 2025. She has been warned by an expert that the new podcast could be a "recipe for failure" unless her new team makes key changes to its existing format.

Meanwhile, the former actress and her husband also have a bumper five-year Netflix deal that expires in 2025. The Duchess of Sussex has reportedly wrapped up her upcoming cooking show, which follows the launch of her new brand, 'American Riviera Orchard', which is thought to sell a number of homeware items including jam and dog biscuits.

Commenting on the new projects, Mr Quinn added: "With news that the couple’s Netflix contract may be under threat, along with the mockery that greeted the launch of her online brand, Meghan feels very much under siege."

Meghan reportedly also feels people are "unfairly picking on her", with the royal author claiming "everything she does will be unfairly criticised."

The Netflix show, which has yet to be named, was announced back in April and has now finished filming, with its release date still unknown. The show is thought to share similarities with her old blog 'The Tig' and American Riviera Orchard.

It will be produced by Sony Pictures Television’s Intellectual Property with the duchess, Hariton, Archewell’s Chanel Pysnik, and IPC’s Aaron Saidman and Eli Holzman serving as executive producers.

A Hollywood source told the Daily Beast of the filming: "It all went well and it is in the can."
