Gary Lineker famously sparked outrage when he topped the BBC wage list in 2023, and despite agreeing to a pay cut, the presenter recouped his earnings elsewhere.

In 2022, the former footballer was the only BBC star to earn more than £1million, for work including Match Of The Day, coverage of the World Cup and Sports Personality Of The Year.

Although he frequently tops the list as the broadcaster’s top earners, Gary’s businesses away from TV brings in just as much.

As well as being a famous face on screens, the 64-year-old also hosts a hugely successful podcast, The Rest is Football.

The show which launched in August 2023, is co-hosted by Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.

Despite his BBC earnings of £1.3 million, the show has proved to be a lucrative hobby for Gary.

The popularity of the podcast has made Goalhanger - the company behind The Rest Is Football - a profitable business.

This has significantly contributed to Gary’s personal income and directly benefitted him as he is the co-founder of the company.

According to Metro, the business' micro company accounts show capital and reserves were at £590,958 for the financial year ending in May 2023.

The amount comes as a remarkable increase from the previous year's £207,883, with a growth of 184 per cent.

The outlet predicts if the company continues with some figures it could eventually become the sports pundits' main earners.

On the success of the podcast, Gary stated: “I think we started early, recognised that podcasting was going to be interesting, got a bit lucky and made some good choices.”

Speaking to The Financial Times, he added: "The business is performing staggeringly well. But it’s a very, very good business.”
