The Project's Kate Langbroek shocked viewers on Wednesday night with a risqué joke aimed at fellow panelist Sam Taunton.

During a light-hearted segment about lice, the conversation took an unexpected and turn.

'I remember having lice, it was the worst,' Taunton shared during the dinner time panel show.

'Yeah, but yours were pubic lice,' Langbroek shot back, sparking side-splitting  laughter from co-hosts Sarah Harris and Georgie Tunny.

'Yeah, my mum found them as well. It was so awkward,' replied Taunton, leaving the panelists in a state of shock.

This wasn't the only time Taunton was the butt of jokes this week.

On Monday, Chelsea Handler made quite an impression during her appearance on the show.

The American comedian came in hot, immediately mocking panelist Taunton after his Barbie joke failed to land.

'It is going to have to be a C-section,' Sam joked when the group were discussing Margot Robbie's pregnancy.

His co-stars responded with confused silence, forcing the comedian to clarify, 'In the Barbie movie... She doesn't have...'

It took a moment for his co-stars to catch on that Sam meant Barbie does not have genitals.

'You missed it all!' he exclaimed when the room finally erupted in embarrassed laughter.

Chelsea was quick to mention the failed gag as soon as she appeared on the show.

'Before you get started, I want to touch on your Barbie joke. How can you make a joke like that when you know a comedian is coming on the show?' she quipped.

'It was a really bad joke. I felt so bad for you, you know, what I mean?'

'After I did the joke, I thought, "Look, put that behind you, Sam, no one will bring it up again,"' Sam confessed.

Chelsea was then asked how she recovers from a bad joke herself.

'I don't know. I never told one,' she deadpanned.

'It wasn't the joke, it was your reactions. They thought it was worse than what you actually meant, and then you were about to get cancelled and then you recovered,' she went on.

Sam added: 'I never told a joke where everyone all together agreed it wasn't funny.'

'Yeah. Congratulations,' Chelsea replied sarcastically.

She then said the name of her stand up show was Little Big B***h 'because Little B***h was taken by Sam!'

That statement caused uproarious laughter from the cast and audience alike.

Chelsea half-heartedly apologised but Sam took it all in good humour, adding, 'It's just good to have a laugh.'
