Heather Morris reminisces about her late Glee co-star Naya Rivera on the four-year anniversary of her sudden death: 'I can't shake the feeling you never left'

Heather Morris is looking back fondly on her late Glee co-star Naya Rivera, on the four-year anniversary of her untimely passing.

The actress was just 33 years old when, on July 8, 2020, she was declared missing, after she failed to return from a boating trip with her son in Lake Piru, California.

Her body was discovered five days later on July 13, with the cause of death revealed as accidental drowning, and it is believed that Rivera and her four-year-old son Josey Dorsey were caught in a rip current at the lake.

After a brief time swimming in the lake with Josey, she helped her son back onto the boat, though the Ventura County Sheriff suggested at the time, 'she mustered enough energy to get her son back into the boat, but not enough to save herself.'

Now Morris - who reunited with many other Glee co-stars to re-record Rivera's 2012 song Prayer For the Broken in December - is honoring her late friend once again.

The Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office found no sign of drugs or alcohol being involved in her death, which was declared an accidental drowning.

'We know from speaking with her son, that he and Naya swam in the lake together at some point during their journey,' said Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub at a news conference.

'It was during that time that her son described being helped into the boat by Naya, who boosted him onto the deck from behind,he said.

'He told investigators that he looked back and saw her disappear under the surface of the water,' Ayub added.
