Halle Berry seduces Mark Wahlberg and ensnares him in a web of spies in a rollicking new trailer for the action comedy The Union.

Mark, 53, plays a construction worker called Mike who leads a normal life in New Jersey and has never left the Tristate Area.

Meanwhile Halle, 57, plays Roxanne, his glamorous former high school sweetheart who has embarked on a radically different existence as a super spy.

When Roxanne whirls back into Mike's life and approaches him at a bar, she tricks him into believing all she wants is to strike up their romance again.

But when she lures him into a park, she injects him with a drug that knocks him out and he wakes up in Europe - kickstarting a wild adventure.

Roxanne surprises Mike by sidling up to him at a bar - and shocks him even further when she turns out to be able to 'handle' her alcohol.

Mike and Roxanne warmly reminisce about having gone to prom together, when she threw up on his tuxedo, which still fits him.

As their flirtation ramps up, she manages to get him out of the bar and on his own into a darkened park, where her true intentions reveal themselves.

She slips a syringe into the side of his neck, and next thing he knows, he has woken up after a long period of unconsciousness in London.

Roxanne's colleague Tom Brennan, played by a grizzled JK Simmons, briefs Mike on the mission he has just unwittingly joined.

'Two nights ago, a list containing the identities of every US spy was stolen, and to get it back, we need someone who is not on that list,' says Tom.

'We need a nobody - a nobody I can trust,' says Roxanne, explaining that she and Tom are employed by a mysterious spy organization called The Union.

Tom assures Mike that they want 'street smarts' rather than 'book smarts' - a distinction that becomes less comforting when Mike has his abilities tested.

His reflex tester slaps him in the face and he fails to either predict the move or dodge it, resulting in the verdict: 'Reflex bad.'

However, with patient and affectionate coaching from Roxanne, Mike eventually hones his capabilities as a burgeoning spy.

Before long, he flings himself headlong into heart-stopping action sequences, including gunfights, fistfights and chases.

By the end of the trailer, Roxanne saves his life by tossing him a gun to kill a would-be assassin - only for Mike to then turn around and save her life with the same gun.

'You're welcome,' says Mike, earning an appreciative chuckle from Roxanne, who realizes her training has proven to be a success.

Their romance also blossoms again, as Roxanne fondly tells Mike: 'I'm glad it's you and me, and I'm really glad I walked back into that bar.'

In an endearing scene, Mike calls his mother - played by GoodFellas star Lorraine Bracco - from Roxanne's phone and she somehow recognizes the number.

'Ma, how do you know that?' Mike says, nonplussed, to which his mother cheerily replies: 'I always liked her for you. What is she up to?'
