Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been ruled out of the UEFA Super Cub clash with Sevilla as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

The Portugal captain led his side to victory at the European Championship, although was forced out of the final after a clash with France's Dimitri Payet. He has been enjoying an extended break in his home island of Madeira before eventually returning to the Bernabeu.

Between visiting his personal museum - where he put some finishing touches to a waxwork model of himself - and having a hotel and the island's airport named in his honour, he gave an update on his return to club action - revealing he will miss the showpiece match between the Champions League winners and Europa League champions on August 9.

'Obviously it's something I want, I have mentioned it many times, and the club also wants it. But we only spoke briefly, and there will be more concrete things to come.'

After leading Real Madrid to victory in the Champions League and ending Portugal's wait for a first international trophy at Euro 2016, the former Manchester United winger is favourite to reclaim the Ballon d'Or from arch rival Lionel Messi. And he is confident about the prospect of success.

'It's out of my hands,' he said. 'But I'll admit that I'm in a good position given that I won the Champions League and the European Championships.'
