Queen Mary of Denmark dons 'cursed' hat she wore the day before marrying King Frederik - after two embarrassing encounters with it

Crown Queen Mary of Denmark is known for re-purposing her favourite clothes and accessories - and she was recently brave enough to don one that has been nothing but a nuisance to her in the past.

While at the 175th anniversary of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Denmark on June 5, the Aussie-born royal looked elegant in a wide-brimmed hat which would have triggered some amusing memories.

Mary has worn the coral-coloured hat twice since 2004 and both times struggled to keep it on her head when faced with an unexpected breeze.

This time, however, the 52-year-old managed to keep the bold accessory secure.

The Queen first wore the hat designed by milliner Susanne Juul at a reception the day before she married Frederik.

As she stood on the steps of Parliament a sudden gust of wind blew the hat from her head, much to her surprise.

The mum-of-four wore the hat again in 2006 during a visit to the Danish island of Bornholm.

While outside, she had to keep two hands firmly on the brim to stop it from blowing away seemingly learning her lesson from the last time she wore it.

Under the hat, she pinned her hair in a sophisticated updo and wore nude Prada pumps.

Mary was able to get through both events without losing or having to hold onto her hat.
