Heartstopper's Yasmin Finney, 19, admits she doesn't think she will 'ever fall in love' as she poses with her co-stars for Cosmopolitan cover shoot

Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney has candidly admitted she doesn't think she will 'ever be in love' and told how men have 'let her down'.

The actress, 19, gave her very candid thoughts on love and dating as she chatted to Cosmopolitan UK with some of her co-stars from the smash hit Netflix show.

She was joined by Kizzy Edgell, Rhea Norwood and Corinna Brown for the wide-ranging interview as the stars all posed up a storm for a sensational cover shoot.

Yasmin plays teenager Elle Argent in the series, who forms a blossoming romance with Tao Xu, but the star told how she doesn't think she will fall in love in her own life.

She candidly confessed that she is too 'sure' of herself to 'lessen' herself for anyone else and told how she feels that men have let her down 'all the time'.

She told the publication: 'I don't think I'm ever going to fall in love. I'm too sure of myself to lessen myself for any other person that isn't 'with me'.

'It's what [singer] Eartha Kitt said, "I want to fall in love with myself and... I want someone to share me, with me". But it's difficult. Men let me down all the time.'

Yasmin, who is transgender, went on to admit that she found the response to the first series of Heartstopper 'mind-blowing' when she soared to overnight fame.

Before her role on the show, adapted from Alice Oseman's graphic novels, Yasmin was a student and she confessed she didn't realise how popular Heartstopper would become.

She said: 'I didn't realise how big Heartstopper was going to be. When I got cast as Elle aged 17, I was just happy to play this amazing trans girl who's living authentically.

'I was still figuring out who I was, so it was mind-blowing to see the response to Elle. Who I am is always going to be something that people want to talk about, but individuals should never be seen as a political playground.

'What's nice about Elle is she's so natural, confident, happy and real, she'll always be my hero.'

Yasmin also admitted she felt a lot of pressure returning for the second series of Heartstopper, which is slated for release on August 3, after it gained such a huge fan base.

'There was definitely a pressure because season one did so well. We wanted to give season two all we had,' she admitted.

Her co-star Kizzy Edgell, who plays Tara Jones, said the response on social media was more 'intense' than they were all expecting, with the cast leaning on each other for support.

Speaking about becoming a role model for young teenagers, Yasmin also told how she wants to start a campaign to help those with body dysmorphia or gender dysphoria.

Body dysmorphia is a condition where a person obsessively worries about apparent flaws in their appearance, while gender dysphoria describes a feeling of distress a person may feel due to their gender identity differing from their biological sex.

Yasmin told how she herself has struggled to 'fall in love' with her own body as she told how she wants to be able to share a positive message with others.

Of her hopes to start a campaign, Yasmin said: 'I want to start a "love your body" campaign for anyone who [lives with] body dysmorphia and gender dysmorphia.

'It's taken me such a long time to fall in love with my body. When I look at myself, I want to embody confidence… I've got a long way to go, but if I could give back to anyone, it would be my community.'

Meanwhile, her co-star Rhea Norwood - who portrays Imogen Heaney - told how she was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and wants to be vocal about her experience.

She said: 'I recently got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, so I feel a responsibility to be open about that. But also for being a funny and confident woman.'

Their wide-ranging interview comes just weeks ahead of the hotly-anticipated release of Heartstopper's second series - set to come out on August 3.

The first series was a smash hit last year, telling the story of gay secondary school student Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) who falls in love with his friend Nick Nelson (Kit Connor).

A hit with fans and critics alike, the show - which also follows the lives of Charlie and Nick's friends Tao Xu (William Gao), Elle Argent (Yasmin) and Isaac Henderson (Tobie Donovan) - has been commissioned for a second and third series.

And Netflix recently released the first trailer for the second season of Heartstopper, which sees Nick, Charlie and their pals go to Paris.

The trailer opens with Charlie gently touching Nick's hand as they stand together in the sun in Paris.

Animated sparks fly between their fingers as Charlie looks lovingly at Nick before a the Eiffel Tower appears on screen.

The group of friends can then be seen running around the streets, museums and galleries of Paris as they take in the sights as the words 'show the world what love is made of' move across the screen.

Charlie is then heard saying: 'Everything is going to be perfect,' to which Nick whispers: 'Yeah...'
