Before it even arrived in the West End, US theatrical sensation Slave Play had provoked controversy - with plans to have performances for black-only audiences sparking a row that even reached Downing Street. And as it opened at London's Noel Coward Theatre its capacity for outrage has shown no sign of dipping with early audiences stunned by its provocative cocktail of sexualised and 'triggering' content. The show - starring Game of Thrones actor Kit Harrington and Denzel Washington's daughter Olivia Washington - sees American playwright Jeremy O Harris' show uses graphic sex scenes and foul and derogatory language loaded with racially offensive terms to explore ideas around unconscious racism and so-called 'white privilege'. And opening audiences have been divided by the show - which even features a brutal rape scene - according to a straw poll of those leaving by Mail Online with some even leaving before the end....read
