Community Podium is playing a vital role in making complex information accessible and engaging for communities focusing on critical thematic areas like governance, social justice, climate justice, and gender & women issues. We envisage empowering people to understand and participate in processes that affect their lives. On a weekly basis, we use a platform like WhatsApp, as it's widely available and accessible, making it easier for community members to join in and contribute to the discussions. This approach promotes inclusivity, diversity, and grassroots engagement, which is essential for building a more informed and active citizenry. Access to information has a lot to do with comprehension than the mere availability of it when sought. Journalists and members of the civil society can contribute to the public's decision-making by simplifying hard-to-understand information like budgets, etc #communitydiaries Accountability Lab Zibusiso John Dube IMS (International Media Support) Nkosikhona Dibiti Sanelisiwe Sibanda McDonald Lewanika Beloved Chiweshe

📌 Let's take a look into devolution matters as guided by the constitution. What is devolution❓️ Devolution is the transfer of power from national to local government. It's important because it ensures that decisions are made closer to local communities. #communitydiaries

A reflection from the Community Media Indaba hosted by Community Podium on the Freedom of Information Act being administered by the Zimbabwe Media Commission. I spoke to Prof Admire Mare and I was inspired by his words. “It is time to test the utility and responsiveness of this law”. I could’nt have said it any better. The law needs to be tested by Zimbabweans to identify the gaps supported evidence. One of our journalists Theh Mhlanga submitted an information request in Lupane, Matebeleland North using the prescribed manner and the request form. We are working towards completing the appeal process for a deemed refusal request. We appreciate the support from IMS (International Media Support) & SIDA as we continue to interface the Zimbabwe Media Commission and various stakeholders. Remember every citizen of Zimbabwe can use this law to request for information held by public institutions in the interest of public accountability and for the preservation of a right. 💡Did you know that the Freedom of Information Act repealed the Access to Information & Protection of Privacy Act? #FOIA allows the media and Zimbabwean citizens to access information from public entities for purposes of accountability and to protect a right. #communitydiaries IMS (International Media Support) Rashweat Mukundu Sanelisiwe Sibanda Nkosikhona Dibiti Zenzele Ndebele Centre for Innovation and Technology
