USAID CHEKUP II Presents at the AIDS 2024 Conference ========================================== Alcohol and substance abuse are causes of depression among underserved populations in Lusaka, especially among female sex workers. This is according to an abstracted title “Estimated Prevalence of Mental Health Problems Among Key Populations in Zambia: The Case of Lusaka Wellness Centre”, which has been presented at the AIDS 2024 Conference in Munich, Germany. Presented by Lisa Kalungwana, the Mental Health Advisor for the USAID CHEKUP II Activity, the abstract has recommended that integrating mental health in HIV programming is critical in ensuring the well-being of underserved populations. At the same event, Lubinda Chingumbe, the acting Chief of Party for the USAID CHEKUP II Activity, in his abstract, has called for HIV prevention interventions that address the plight of children of female sex workers. The abstract, titled “The Children of Female Sex Workers (CFSWs): A ‘New’ Key, Vulnerable and Underserved Population”, highlights that due to their exposure to a wide range of social and economic vulnerabilities, children of female sex workers are a vulnerable group. The conference brings together an estimated 15,000 scientists, policymakers, healthcare professionals, people living with HIV, and others at the intersection of science, advocacy, and human rights.

INJECTABLE PrEP NOW AVAILABLE IN NAKONDE Nakonde District has rolled out the injectable medicine for preventing the acquisition of HIV. The medicine is known as Cabotegravir Long-acting Injectable (CAB-LA. Speaking at the thunderous launch, which took place yesterday at Nakonde Urban Clinic, Her Royal Highness, Chief Waitwika urged her subjects in the district to take advantage of the innovative medicine and protect themselves from the HIV virus. The traditional leader, who spoke passionately about the need for more innovative HIV prevention strategies, said (through her interpreter) “I wish the medicine was introduced in the district earlier.” The CAB-LA rollout is supported by the USAID Controlling HIV Epidemic for Key and Underserved Populations (USAID CHEKUP II) Activity and its partners. The launch was attended by various stakeholders, including the Nakonde Town Council Chairperson, Nakonde District Commissioner, with representation from the USAID Zambia Muchinga Province Health Office, church representatives, and other USAID Zambia implementing partners. CAB-LA is now available at Nakonde Urban Clinic and USAID CHEKUP II-supported wellness centers within the district. The USAID CHEKUP II Activity is a 5-year activity and is implemented by John Snow Health Zambia Limited.

🚀 Here are some highlights from our USAID eSCMIS project's participation at the 4th Africa Digital Health Summit last week! 🌍✨ Our Director of Systems Implementation and Support, Jeremy Sikazwe, showcased our work in "Digitizing Healthcare Supply Chains: Transforming Systems for Enhanced Efficiency and Accountability in Zambia." 🏥💻 During the session, Jeremy responded to questions from participants and highlighted how eLMIS has revolutionized instantaneous decision-making. One example he shared was how the stock status report aids in efficient stock redistribution. 📊📦 He also discussed the benefits in terms of efficiency and cost reduction, referencing a time study result from 2015/16 that revealed a significant reduction in the time spent preparing and submitting reports. ⏳📉 Moreover, the availability of large amounts of more reliable data for Forecasting & Quantification has led to cost reduction by minimizing wastage that results from sporadic and inaccurate data. 📈🔍 #AfricaDigitalHealthSummit #ADHS #ADHS24 #ADHS2024 #Efficiency #CostReduction #HealthcareHeroes #HealthcareInnovation #HealthSupplyChains #HealthTech #CapacityBuilding #ZambiaHealthcare #DigitalTransformation #HealthInnovation #ZambiaHealth #DataDrivenHealthcare #eLMIS #eSCMIS #MinistryOfHealthZambia #USAID #MOH #Health #HealthInnovation #HealthLogistics #InformationSystem #JohnSnowHealth #SupplyChain #Zambia #DigitalInnovation #Digitalization #sustainability #eHealth #ZambiaHealthcare #HealthcareInnovation #SupplyChainTransformation #USAIDeSCMISproject

At the center of implementing the USAID Controlling HIV Epidemic for Key and Underserved Populations II (USAID CHEKUP II) Activity are staff, who spend countless hours ensuring that key and underserved populations access inclusive health services. Every day, the members of staff leave their families behind just to ensure that the last person who needs health services is served, in a nondiscriminatory fashion. In recognition of its members of staff’s commitment to excellence, the USAID CHEKUP II Activity has awarded its staff and facilities, demonstrating its commitment to excellence in service provision. “I am humbled and extremely delighted for this award, which I dedicate to my team,” said Bright (from the Finance and Administration Unit), who scooped the “Most Innovative Staff” award at the Activity’s main office, in Lusaka. The awards were part of this year’s International Labour Day commemoration.
