Cde Samson was a co-founder of the South African Water Caucus (SAWC) and served as the coordinator of the Vaal Environmental Justice Alliance (VEJA). His unwavering dedication to activism will never be forgotten, he will be especially missed by members of the SACAN Community Based Organisations Working Group who held him in high esteem. Cde Samson's leadership and courage in the face of adversity earned him a place among civil society and community heroes. He lived a life devoted to community emancipation and the restoration of human dignity for all. Cde Samson, we will honour memory by carrying forward your mission. #LCOYSOUTHAFRICA2024 Webinar highlights 🌍 Message of Support by LCOY Working Group - YOUNGO, the official youth constituency to the UNFCCC, boasts over 10,000 individual members and more than 1,000 youth organizations and NGOs. - Operating through various working groups focused on themes such as renewable energy, human rights, and climate empowerment, YOUNGO also has dedicated groups for communication, social media, and organising global conferences. ________________________________________ 💫 Overview of LCOY 2024 by Moliehi Mafantiri - Moliehi Mafantiri outlined the primary objectives of LCOY South Africa 2024, focusing on empowering youth to contribute to a just transition and producing a youth position on this critical issue. This youth position will be part of the South African local statement and included in the global youth statement presented at the UNFCCC COP. + Safe and inclusive spaces for youth expression were a key point for Moliehi. Shee stressed the importance of ensuring diverse perspectives are heard with respect. ________________________________________ 🌻 Youth and the Just Transition by Bukelwa Nzimande - Bukelwa Nzimande emphasised the importance of youth participation in energy transition discussions and decision-making processes to ensure inclusive and just solutions. She highlighted the necessity of climate action and renewable transition, cautioning that neglecting justice aspects would fail to deliver the needed transformation. + She highlighted importance of scrutinising old systems' financial and institutional frameworks to avoid perpetuating injustices. ________________________________________ 🍂 Climate Finance 101 by Anda Dungulu - Anda Dungulu highlighted the devastating effects of climate change, using examples like Haiti's earthquake and India's heatwaves. She stressed the urgency of addressing climate change through a just energy transition, emphasising systematic change, decisive action, and international cooperation. ________________________________________ 🌿 Renewable Energy by Kamogelo Sehoole - Kamogelo Sehoole emphasised applying research findings to help communities, particularly in disadvantaged areas vulnerable to energy poverty. She showcased the Sakile Sustainable Building, Water, and Energy Nexus project at Sakile Preschool in rural KZN, transforming dilapidated buildings into dignified learning environments. - Kamogelo also highlighted ongoing efforts to make biodigester systems more affordable and sustainable, despite challenges. ________________________________________ 🌟 Thank you for joining this impactful webinar!
