💫 Overview of LCOY 2024 by Moliehi Mafantiri
- Moliehi Mafantiri outlined the primary objectives of LCOY South Africa 2024, focusing on empowering youth to contribute to a just transition and producing a youth position on this critical issue. This youth position will be part of the South African local statement and included in the global youth statement presented at the UNFCCC COP.
+ Safe and inclusive spaces for youth expression were a key point for Moliehi. Shee stressed the importance of ensuring diverse perspectives are heard with respect.

🌻 Youth and the Just Transition by Bukelwa Nzimande
- Bukelwa Nzimande emphasised the importance of youth participation in energy transition discussions and decision-making processes to ensure inclusive and just solutions. She highlighted the necessity of climate action and renewable transition, cautioning that neglecting justice aspects would fail to deliver the needed transformation.
+ She highlighted importance of scrutinising old systems' financial and institutional frameworks to avoid perpetuating injustices.

🍂 Climate Finance 101 by Anda Dungulu
- Anda Dungulu highlighted the devastating effects of climate change, using examples like Haiti's earthquake and India's heatwaves. She stressed the urgency of addressing climate change through a just energy transition, emphasising systematic change, decisive action, and international cooperation.

🌿 Renewable Energy by Kamogelo Sehoole
- Kamogelo Sehoole emphasised applying research findings to help communities, particularly in disadvantaged areas vulnerable to energy poverty. She showcased the Sakile Sustainable Building, Water, and Energy Nexus project at Sakile Preschool in rural KZN, transforming dilapidated buildings into dignified learning environments.
- Kamogelo also highlighted ongoing efforts to make biodigester systems more affordable and sustainable, despite challenges.
