Why did we put an octopus on the front page of our textbook on the Protection of Personal Information Act? It is because you have to be an octopus to be a good at POPIA. Did you know you have only 72 hours to report a data breach? You must report to the Information Regulator SA if personal information was compromised, and the Cybercrimes Act requires reporting to SAPS. Can't find the 72-hour requirement in #POPIA? It is not set in stone, but this is what the Regulator had to say recently: "You can delay if you are reporting the matter to the police and restoring the integrity of IT systems, but beyond 72 hours, we are beginning to look at you not nicely."
