Better Late than Never It was an honour moderating an African Union Development Agency-NEPAD sponsored session on Cross-border infrastructure development in Africa during the Infrastructure Africa event, which happened in Cape Town, South Africa, from 16-17 July 2024. The panel drew insight from the following experts: Towela Jere, Zwelibanzi Sapula M. Inst. D, Hasnayn Ebrahim and Simba Chitapi as speakers. They discussed and shared the challenges faced and also provided some opportunities for advancing cross-border infrastructure projects. Some key takeaways from the discussion were as follows: · For cross-border infrastructure to be sustained, there should be constant collaboration, commitment and engagement from countries or parties involved in the project. · Regulations and policies must be harmonised and domesticated to align with national strategies. · All the sectors (Transport, Energy, ICT and Water) are essential. They must receive equal investments and interest from the private sector to promote the corridor approach in cross-border infrastructure development. · There are other significant roles pertinent roles international partners can take up aside from financial support. Moderating the session provided insight for advancing the conversation and promoting the cooperation of all stakeholders to drive cross-border infrastructure development in Africa. I am very optimistic about the future of infrastructure development on the continent. We stand together to build a connected and prosperous Africa. #InfrastructureDevelopment #Africa #CrossBorderProjects #Sustainability #PublicPrivatePartnerships #CapacityBuilding #PolicyHarmonization #FutureOfAfrica

A meetings hub space for the South African Electrotechnical Export Council was important to facilitate networking and stimulate the conversations that lead to business deals at Infrastructure Africa which took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre - 16,17 July 2024. Events like #InfrastructureAfrica drive economic growth in South Africa and #HOTT3D is happy to play our part. Private meeting pods, general networking areas and work stations contained in a pavilion style structure, finished of with neat furnishing and interesting use of local shweshwe fabric - achieved a fantastic looking end result. #local #businessevents #infrastructureafrica #eventprofessionals #cticc #southafrica #capetown

I enjoyed moderating this conversation on the role that SEZ’s and IDZ’s can play in the growth and development of the Africa continent. Some major themes; Policy coordination is critical - up to the highest level SEZ’s must be bedded in munics (cost and revenue side) Financial incentives are a top up (not the primary consideration for relocating to an SEZ) The social aspect is a strategic imperative (not just commercial) #reimagining industrialization Thank you Infrastructure Africa Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa (SEIFSA)

Day 1 of the Infrastructure Africa Conference 🌍 with the newly elected South African Minister Dean Macpherson who stated that he plans to transform the country into a "massive construction site". My question to him and biggest concern was how does he ensure that this happens in a sustainable manner, considering the realities that most South Africans lacking access to basic infrastructure & services? And that the people are affected by disasters such as floods, due to climate change? He acknowledged that although transformation will not happen overnight, his response focused largely on the financial aspect, indicating that we should work together to ensure that projects are structured in line with investor requirements to secure funding for development. He further declared that his plan is to revitalize the decayed and abandoned Government owned buildings, to be utilized by public servants. https://lnkd.in/dKV_z5-S #Infrastructure #AfricanUnion #Sustainabledevelopment #BuildBackBetter #AfricaWeWant #climateresilience
