The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is the foremost Pan-African multilateral financial institution devoted to financing and promoting intra- and extra-African trade. The Bank was established in October 1993 by African governments, African private and institutional investors, and non-African investors. Its two basic constitutive documents are the Establishment Agreement, which gives it the status of an international organization, and the Charter, which governs its corporate structure and operations.

    Ahead of the CANEX Weekend in Algiers, Algeria, from October 16-19, Afreximbank is proud to announce the reconstitution of the Creative Africa Advisory Group (CAAG). This group will guide the Bank’s Creative Africa Nexus Programme. The first meeting of the reconstituted CAAG took place at the Waldorf Astoria, Cairo, on July 9, 2024, co-chaired by H.E Amb. Minata Samate Cessouma, Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, African Union Commission and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, Founder of Silverbird Group, Nigeria. CAAG is tasked with guiding Afreximbank’s strategy to support Africa’s creative and cultural industries. Members will serve two-year terms, focusing on CANEX Programme Implementation, CANEX Africa Digital Platform and CANEX Creations Incorporated. Other CAAG members include Alex Okosi, Managing Director, Google Africa, Didier Drogba, President, Didier Drogba Foundation, Azza Fahmy, Founder, Azza Fahmy Designs, and and many more esteemed leaders in the creative industry.     We are proud to announce that through our Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) programme, we bring you the second edition of the vibrant short film competition and screening initiative, CANEX Shorts. CANEX Shorts is a competition designed to recognize and celebrate the talents of young filmmakers. Filmmakers between the ages of 18 and 35 are welcome to submit their films, not exceeding five minutes, via Filmfreeway, to be considered for selection. A selection of films, curated by the selection committee, will be sent to the jury who will then select a short list of 9 films that will be screened during CANEX WKND 2024, in Algiers, Algeria, October 16 - 19, 2024.     At the recently held African Energy Forum, Mrs. HELEN AIGBE BRUME, ACCA, Director of Project & Asset Based Finance at Afreximbank, participated in a leadership roundtable on "Energy Systems of the Future – Balancing Africa’s Needs with Global Goals" and a panel on "Striking a Balance for Africa’s Gas Projects – Building Cohesive Gas Value Chains and Developing Future Infrastructure". In these sessions, Mrs. Brume emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach to transitioning to sustainable energy systems tailored to Africa's unique needs. She highlighted the potential shift towards natural gas and renewable energy sources to tackle energy access and climate change challenges. She also discussed strategies to unlock Africa’s onshore gas potential through policy improvements, investment attraction, technical capacity enhancement, and strong infrastructure development. These prestigious awards celebrate individuals, groups, and organizations that have significantly contributed to improving food and nutritional security, income generation, resilience, and natural resource management across Africa through research, innovation, agripreneurship, and policy advocacy. The awards ceremony took place in Nassau, Bahamas, during the 2024 Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM2024) and the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF).     An Afreximbank delegation led by Senior Executive Vice President, Mr Denys Denya, participated in the Ministerial meeting of African Unions 7th Specialised Technical Committee on Finance, Monetary Affairs. Economic Planning and Intergration that held on 6-7 July in Tunis. The meeting was convened under the theme of "Enhancing Macroeconomic and sectoral policies coordination in Africa: challenges, opportunities and policy priorities for inclusive growth and development". The STC meeting also commemorated African Integration Day, with a discussion on achieving financial integration and the role of the Alliance of African Multilateral Financial Institutions. Among others, the STC discussed the AU's participation in the G20, the African Monetary Institute, Afreximbank's Central Bank Deposit Programme, the African Direct Investment Report and the Model Law on Factoring. #GlobalAfrica #Afreximbank
