Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina and the Urban League of the Upstate announced a partnership to create a new film academy on Tuesday, June 9.
The partnership officially launched after signing a Memorandum of Understanding.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Urban League of the Upstate to launch this Film Academy,” Pat Michaels, Goodwill president and CEO, said in a news release. “This initiative represents a significant step forward in providing creative career opportunities for our community members. By leveraging our combined resources and expertise, we are committed to empowering individuals through education and skill development, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and dynamic local film industry.”
The Film Academy offers a four-week intensive course which is designed to teach participants the skills needed to work in the film and television industry.
This is the third program to join Goodwill's Innovation Institute, alongside the ELEVATE Drone Pilot Training Program and the Tech Academy.
"We're offering places where we can say, 'Hey, here's some training and expertise,' but let us lead you to that next career," Chunsta Miller from Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina said.
Once participants complete the program, they are eligible to join "Stage 32," which is an international networking site for film professionals.
The marketing company Cargo is leading these film classes.
The executive producer of Cargo said the classes are a mix of lectures and hands-on workshops.
The course breakdown is as follows:
- Week 1: Break In By Breaking Through
- Week 2: Rewrite Your Story
- Week 3: Virtual Production & the Basics of Unreal Engine
- Week 4: Studio Workshop Day
Registration is open, and classes for the first cohort began on June 12.
