BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The West Virginia Senior Little League softball tournament began on a hot Tuesday evening at Barboursville Park. Wayne Central faced off against Summersville in the semifinals and won 14-4.

Summersville player Samantha Brown said the journey to the semifinals was challenging.

“We really didn’t think we’d make it this far, so I think it’s kinda been pretty exciting to know that we’ve had the drive to come this far in the semifinals.” Brown said.

Teams had to be more prepared than usual on the hottest day of the tournament so far.

“The turf is gonna be really hot. It attracts a lot of heat, so you know we’ve gotta really hydrate, wear sunglasses, lots and lots of sunscreen to stay out of the heat.” Brown said.

Summersville coaches Erika Cole and Tiffany Tinnel agreed that staying cool was important for the game.

“We got a mobile fan in the dugout. These girls are resilient, they have great attitudes, so I think they’re just looking forward to playing win or lose.” Cole said.

Around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Wayne Central began play against Moorefield for the Little League Senior Softball Division Championship game.

Moorefield bested Wayne Central 11-3 in that championship game.
