Teen seriously injured in fatal crash now breathing on her own
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A young girl seriously injured in a crash on June 18 along 5th Street Road is making significant strides on her road to recovery.
According to family members, the teen has been taken off a ventilator and is breathing on her own.
Three sisters were involved in the crash that happened in Wayne County near Skyview Drive.
Family identifies teen killed, others hurt in crash
Raelyn Paynter, 17, died in the crash, while her two sisters were injured.
Reece Paynter, 15, was left in critical condition following the accident, but as of June 27, breathing on her own and speaking in complete sentences. According to the family, Reece has even been passing ball with nurses.
Family members say one of the doctors in the room said he did not expect Paynter to make such leaps in recovery this soon after the crash.
“This is an answer to prayer! Praise God! Thank you everyone for praying,” said the Paynter family on social media.
Laney Paynter, 13, is recovering after suffering minor injuries in the collision.
A GoFundME has been set up to help provide the family with financial assistance.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
