Hurricane Beryl swiped Jamaica on Wednesday with torrential rain, storm surge, and hurricane force winds. The strongest winds, which are located in the eye wall, grazed parts of the southern coast of Jamaica. Kingston, Jamaica did not see the worst of the wind, but still measured a wind gust of 81 mph!The forecast track now aims Beryl at Mexico arriving Friday along the coast of the Yucatan. Some weakening is possible before the storm hits Mexico. Beryl is expected to move over the southern Gulf of Mexico where some restrengthening is possible this weekend. There is still uncertainty whether Beryl makes a second landfall in Mexico or inches north towards the South Texas Coast around South Padre Island. Another area we are monitoring in the eastern Caribbean is INVEST 96-L. This is forecast to take a similar path to Beryl. The chance of tropical development is currently low at 20%. A couple models try to form an area of low pressure. We'll monitor this in the days ahead. For Southeast Georgia and the Lowcountry, our 4th of July forecast looks hot and dry. Here is the beach and boating forecast for Thursday. If you are headed to the beach there is a moderate risk of rip currents.Temperatures will be heating up in the days ahead. The heat index or feel like temperature will reach the triple digits giving us a 'miserable' feel by Friday and Saturday. Dry weather is in the forecast for area fireworks celebrations Thursday evening!
