What are the SDGs?

Achieving peace and prosperity for people and the planet is at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015.

The agenda sets out 17 action points – the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – to “free the human race from the tyranny of poverty” and “shift the world onto a sustainable and resilient path” by 2030.

How is WFP helping to achieve the SDGs?

SDG 2: Zero hunger

SDG 2 aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. The World Food Programme (WFP) has been committed to ending hunger since it was founded over 60 years ago. By building resilience, adapting to climate change, promoting good nutrition and improving food systems, our work helps address the root causes of hunger and ensure sufficient, nutritious food for all. These efforts have saved millions of lives and changed millions more for the better. Read more here about WFP's work to achieve zero hunger.

SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals

SDG 17 highlights the need to implement and revitalize global partnership for sustainable development. As the world’s largest humanitarian organization, WFP works in partnership with a range of national and international actors –  including governments, other United Nations agencies, NGOs, private sector companies and academia – to  increase our effectiveness and secure funds for sustainable development.
