Lake County Republican Party votes to censure tax collector, property appraiser candidate
The Lake County Republican Party on Tuesday night voted to censure Tax Collector David Jordan and candidate Mark Jordan after they "concocted a plot to steal the Republican nomination for Lake County property appraiser from the incumbent."
WESH 2 reported the allegations of fraud and deceit in the Lake County race earlier this week.
Carey Baker serves as Lake County's property appraiser.
To spare his campaign donors the expense of covering the $10,685.04 qualifying fee as he seeks a fourth term in office, he promised them he would file as a write-in candidate if no one challenged him, and return their contributions.
He told WESH 2 News he shared that information with David Jordan, who then shared it with his brother Mark Jordan. As soon as Baker left the elections office on the last day of qualifying for state and county offices Friday – believing he was automatically re-elected as a write-in – Mark Jordan quickly filed as a Republican candidate as his brother, David, stood by.

Eustis Mayor Michael Holland, who is Mark Jordan's treasurer, and also chief of staff to tax collector David Jordan, wrote the qualifying check, according to Supervisor of Elections Alan Hays.
Baker said the ethical move is for Mark Jordan to drop out, adding, “We don't want public officials that obtained office through deception and deceitful behavior. This is the most horrific thing I have ever experienced on a personal level.”
The party on Tuesday night passed the resolution to censure the brothers for "their deeply immoral and depraved actions unbecoming of a Republican official," a copy of the resolution obtained by WESH 2 states.
