ON THE CASE. JEN ANTOINETTE AMONG THE CHARGES AGAINST DIANE FENTON, THREE COUNTS OF RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT OF A CHILD, THREE CHILDREN WERE IN HER CARE WHEN POLICE SAY SHE ASSAULTED HER HUSBAND WITH A BASEBALL BAT. FENTON APPEARED FOR A BRIEF PRETRIAL HEARING EARLIER THIS MORNING. ACCORDING TO POLICE, FENN’S HUSBAND CALLED POLICE THE AFTERNOON OF SEPTEMBER 20TH. HE SAID HIS WIFE WAS CHASING HIM OUTSIDE WITH A WOODEN BAT. HE HAD CONFRONTED HER AFTER FINDING HER INTOXICATED WHILE TAKING CARE OF A SIX MONTH OLD, THREE YEAR OLD AND FOUR YEAR OLD. POLICE SAY THEY FOUND THE CHILDREN INSIDE THE HOME. FENTON’S HUSBAND TOLD POLICE SHE ABUSED ALCOHOL AND HAD SLASHED HIM WITH A KNIFE A YEAR BEFORE. FOR DIANE, FENTON RAN A LICENSED DAYCARE OUT OF HER HOME. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO THE FAMILIES WHO HAD THEIR CHILDREN IN YOUR CARE. HAD NO COMMENT FOR US TODAY. THE MOTHER OF TWO OF THE CHILDREN IN FENTON’S CARE THAT THAT DAY SPOKE WITH US THIS MORNING. SHE SAID, QUOTE, THIS WAS SOMETHING NO PARENT WANTS TO EXPERIENCE SINCE IT WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT THAT PRESENTED NO WARNING SIGNS AND WE WERE UNAWARE OF ANY PRIOR ISSUES. IT HAS NOT BEEN REFLECTIVE OF OUR EXPERIENCE WITH HOME DAYCARES. FENTON IS DUE BACK IN COURT IN DECEMBER. SHE CANNOT CARE FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 14. SHE HAS ALSO BEEN ORDERED TO STAY AWAY FROM HER HOME IN WALPOLE. WE’RE LIVE IN WRENTHAM.

A Walpole day care owner is accused of endangering children in her care after she allegedly attacked her husband with a bat.Diane Fenton, 58, is facing several charges including three counts of reckless endangerment of a child.Officials said three children were in Fenton's care when police say she assaulted her husband on Sept. 20 at her Walpole home.According to the police report, Fenton's husband called police that afternoon and said his wife was chasing him with a baseball bat.He had confronted her after finding her intoxicated while taking care of a 6-month-old, 3-year-old and 4-year-old, officials said. Police said they found the children inside the home.Fenton's husband told police she abused alcohol and had slashed him with a knife a year before.Fenton ran a licensed day care out of her home. "This was something no parent wants to experience. It was an isolated incident that presented no warning signs, and we were unaware of any prior issues. It hasn't been reflective of our experience with home day cares," the mother of one of two of the children in Fenton's care said. Fenton is due back in court in December and has been ordered to stay away from her home.
