Walpole day care owner accused of attacking husband with baseball bat in front of children in her care
A Walpole day care owner is accused of endangering children in her care after she allegedly attacked her husband with a bat.
Diane Fenton, 58, is facing several charges including three counts of reckless endangerment of a child.
Officials said three children were in Fenton's care when police say she assaulted her husband on Sept. 20 at her Walpole home.
According to the police report, Fenton's husband called police that afternoon and said his wife was chasing him with a baseball bat.
He had confronted her after finding her intoxicated while taking care of a 6-month-old, 3-year-old and 4-year-old, officials said. Police said they found the children inside the home.
Fenton's husband told police she abused alcohol and had slashed him with a knife a year before.
Fenton ran a licensed day care out of her home.
"This was something no parent wants to experience. It was an isolated incident that presented no warning signs, and we were unaware of any prior issues. It hasn't been reflective of our experience with home day cares," the mother of one of two of the children in Fenton's care said.
Fenton is due back in court in December and has been ordered to stay away from her home.
