An anonymous benefactor generously funded Bear's acquisition, comprehensive training, and necessary equipment. This support, facilitated by the non-profit organization O.U.R. Rescue (Operation Underground Railroad, Rescue), underscores a commitment to assisting law enforcement in combating child exploitation and human trafficking.

Bear's arrival is timely as the department partners with the Internet Crimes Against Children task force. With his exceptional ability to sniff out hidden electronics, such as thumb drives, laptops, hard drives, tracking devices, and even micro SD and SIM cards, Bear is an invaluable asset.

"Criminals involved in child exploitation often believe they can outsmart the system by hiding evidence. Bear is here to prove them wrong," said Police Chief Johnny Gandy.

Detective Ted Thiele, Bear's handler, works and lives alongside the K9. Unlike other working dogs, Bear is trained to be friendly and approachable while on duty.

"Bear is not only adept at finding hidden devices but also provides comfort to victims," Thiele remarked.

The Madison Police Department remains steadfast in its fight against child exploitation. Bear and Thiele will engage with the community, educating groups about Bear's vital role and inspiring work.

As Bear diligently serves the city of Madison and the North Alabama region, he enjoys well-deserved attention and daily belly rubs from the community.
