Vogue World: Paris 2024 is just around the corner, and while we eagerly look forward to seeing what the City of Lights has to offer, there is plenty of already iconic fashion history to pore over from the first two installments, in New York (2022) and London (2023). So, ahead of Sunday’s show, revisit all the best moments from Vogue Worlds past, below.
Serena Williams kicking off Vogue World: New York in custom Balenciaga
It’s Serena’s world and we’re just living in it, as the tennis icon and 2022 Vogue cover star amply proved when she appeared on the runway in a Balenciaga tank dress and cape with four tennis-racket-wielding ball girls behind her. A serve, to be sure!
Howard University’s Ooh La La Dancers enchanting the audience
The Ooh La La Dancers have been a fixture of Howard University since 1982, and their turn down the runway at Vogue World: New York served up the extra hit of excitement everyone needed.
Lil Nas X shutting down the runway with a performance of “Industry Baby”
Nobody draws a soigné crowd’s eye quite like Lil Nas X, who popped out of his seat to deliver a stunning, silver-clad rendition of his hit song before making his way down the catwalk, flanked by Serena Williams and Gigi and Bella Hadid. Legends travel in packs!
Cara Delevingne and FKA Twigs sharing a smooch at Vogue World: London
The second act of Vogue World: London, saw FKA Twigs take the stage with dancers from Rambert to perform an original piece conceived by the dance company’s artistic director, Benoit Swan Pouffer, and set to Opus III’s “It’s a Fine Day.” The mood? Riotous, punkish, and kind of gay, thanks to a kiss shared between Twigs and Cara Delevingne. (With Delevingne on hand to host the Vogue World: Paris livestream this year, maybe we’ll be treated to a repeat performance?)
Stormzy and Sophie Okonedo bringing Shakespeare back to life
One of the most goosebump-inducing moments at Vogue World: London came when Stormzy, flanked by a choir, sang “Crown” from his second studio album, Heavy Is the Head. If that wasn’t enough, while he rapped two giant crates appeared on stage, as well as Sophie Okonedo, who was dressed in its contents: hand-painted Vivienne Westwood couture, inspired by the late designer’s fall 1997 collection, which referenced Tudor portraits and, specifically, Elizabeth I. Okonedo then performed the soliloquy from Henry IV Part II.
Annie Lennox throwing it back to “Sweet Dreams”
A gorgeous tribute to My Fair Lady was accompanied by the London Community Gospel Choir and music legend Annie Lennox, wearing a custom Richard Quinn suit that paid tribute to Pearly Kings and Queens, crooning “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).” It was stunning, to say the least.
Christy, Linda, Naomi, and Cindy closing the show
I mean, once you’ve seen Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington hit the runway in coordinated metallic looks, you know the night is over; after all, what could possibly be bigger or better than that?
