Leave it to Hailey Bieber to crown spring’s hottest new footwear trend. Since January, the model and mogul has stepped out in not one but two pairs of statement red shoes: Jil Sander’s pointed-toe slingbacks and The Row’s polished penny loafers. While we’re no stranger to the hero hue—it made its debut last season on the runways then trickled down to everything from chic cashmere sweaters to outstanding outerwear—red footwear is the latest iteration of the trend poised to take the street style scene by serious storm. And if you needed further proof, the statement shoe was also spotted all over the fall-winter 2024 runways, most notably at Proenza Schouler and Fforme. One thing’s for sure: If you’re not wearing red shoes just yet, you’re certainly about to be.

Vogue’s Ultimate Red Footwear Wish List:

Take it from Bieber, who shows that a ladylike pump provides instant polish to any transitional (or soon-to-be-spring) outfit idea. Styling-wise, follow suit and pair yours with the ultimate closet combination: a plain but perfect white tee and classic light-wash blue jeans. Other barely-there red heels include pointed-toe pumps from Ferragamo and Prada and Proenza Schouler’s strappy red sandals. For a more casual, downtown look, opt for a red leather loafer, like Bieber’s from The Row, or a sweet pair of bow-adorned ballet flats from Mansur Gavriel or H&M. ’Tis still very much the season of the fashion flat, after all. Our heart eyes are also on mesh flats from Massimo Dutti and Dear Frances, which put out ultra-minimalist red iterations. Did we mention that the driving loafer is also in the mix? Find statement styles from Tod’s and M.Gemi.

Red footwear has the A-list seal of approval and the runway one too. Below are 32 of the season’s most standout styles.
