Charlie Condon: A Golden Season to Remember

It was a season to remember for Golden Spikes Award winner Charlie Condon. The University of Georgia star spent the entire campaign atop the national leaderboard in nearly every offensive statistic, clubbing a BBCOR-era record 37 homers while batting a nation-leading .433. His 1.009 slugging percentage, 233 total bases, and 1.565 OPS also paced the country. He ranked top ten nationally in on-base percentage (.556) and runs scored (84), also sitting top four in the Southeastern Conference with 100 hits, 57 walks, and 20 doubles.

Condon’s season started with a bang, as he picked up 23 hits in the first nine games of 2024. He batted .639 with seven home runs over that span, getting his redshirt sophomore campaign off to a strong start. Then, from April 26-May 9, Condon slugged a home run in eight consecutive contests to fall just one homer shy of the NCAA record for most longballs in one game. The first three games of the streak were against national powerhouse Texas A&M, and after homering in a midweek against Kennesaw State, Condon homered in three straight games against Vanderbilt to keep the streak alive. His final homer of the eight-game streak came against South Carolina. Condon drove in 15 runs in the eight-game span.

In addition to being named SEC Player of the Year, Condon was a First Team All-SEC member at third base. He was named the conference player of the week on three separate occasions in 2024, also appearing on the annual SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Overall, Condon had 32 games with two hits or more, including 12 with at least three knocks. The slugger finished his storied career tied for fifth all-time in home runs in the SEC.
