Monday, 22 July

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing on Middle East, followed by consultations on the Middle East (Syria).  

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.   

Today, the noon briefing guest will be Cesar Nunez, Director of the UNAIDS New York Office. He will brief reporters on the new report The Urgency of Now: AIDS at a Crossroads, just ahead of the 25th International AIDS Conference #AIDS2024 in Munich, Germany. The report will demonstrate that ending AIDS as a public health threat is achievable by 2030 but that success is being threatened by pushes to reduce funding and to restrict human rights. 

In Geneva, the 141st Session of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (CCPR) will continue until 23 July. Also in Geneva, the 80th Session of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment will continue until 26 July. 

Also in Geneva, there will be a briefing on the second session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), taking place in Geneva from 22 July – 2 August 2024. Speaker: Akan Rakhmetullin, First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Chair of the second session of the NPT Preparatory Committee.

At 10:00 a.m., in Addis Ababa, the first Session of the Preparatory Committee for the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development will begin. The Session will continue until July 26. 

in Livingstone, Zambia, the 67th Meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa and 2nd UN Tourism Regional Conference on Brand Africa under the theme: "Promoting Africa to unlock tourism investments and the sector’s growth potential" will take place from 22 to 24 July.  

Today, the  Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is expected to release its report on the State of the World’s Forests.  

Tuesday, 23 July

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing on Middle East, followed by consultations on the Middle East (Yemen). In the afternoon, the Security Council is scheduled to hold consultations on the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA)

At 10:00 a.m., at the General Assembly Hall, there will be informal consultations on the high-level meeting on antimicrobial resistance. The consultations will resume in the afternoon.  

Also, at 10:00 a.m., the Management Segment of ECOSOC will take place at the UN Headquarters in New York. The meeting will continue until 24 July.

In Geneva, the UN Information Service will hold its bi-weekly briefing for journalists.  

At 9:30 a.m., in Paris, the “Change the Game” Sport Conference - Partners’ Forum will be held at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

Wednesday, 24 July

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to hold consultations on the 1701 report.  

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.  

Today, the noon briefing guest will be Maximo Torero, Chief Economist of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). He will brief journalists on the launch of the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2024. The report provides timely and relevant recommendations regarding the efficient use of innovative financing tools and reforms to the food security and nutrition financing architecture.
