Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a spot I will return to if I am blessed to return to Ireland. County Offaly is beautiful and full of history. Nancy and Terry are both charming and hospitable. I never ate lunch on the days I stayed at The Rectory, because Nancy's full Irish breakfast was tasty and massive. The grounds are enjoyable for strolling. The Rectory has large common sitting rooms on the ground floor, all well appointed with Nancy's warm touch. If you are staying in County Offaly, this is a steal for the price and value - enjoy.

The Rectory is a beautiful property with an amazing host. Located in a former rectory (hence the name), the building is right next to the remains on an old church. Nancy's hospitality was first rate and she cooked a wonderful breakfast.

We stayed here our first night in Ireland and what an amazing experience we had. Terry and Nancy are fabulous and the home is decorated so warmly. We didn't want to leave! Breakfast was delicious and the setting can't be beat.

Absolutely stunning b&b, really comfy beds, fantastic extra long bath tub! Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for a night and wished we were staying longer! Absolutely loved it. The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming. Extremely nice family! Delicious scones on arrival, very attentive and fun owners. Great price and cannot stress enough how beautiful it is. Would definitely recommend.

We returned this year to The Rectory after spending just two nights there last year. This time we stayed for 10 days as my husband was researching the trains on the nearby peat bogs. Don't worry, I did have chance to visit some lovely places like Borra Countryside Park, Birr Castle, Belvedere House, Cliffs of Moher and Connermara in between the train-spotting. The countryside is beautiful, with quiet roads and 'locals' so friendly you can't just pop in and out of shop you always end up in a conversation.
At The Rectory Nancy & Terry greeted us like family and made to feel that we were really returning home each day. The whole Rectory is beautifully decorated and immaculate but very homely. Our breakfasts were delicious and Nancy made sure that we wouldn't need another meal until evening. Each day we were asked what we would like for breakfast. Our room was comfortable with everything we needed including huge bed, fresh linen and toiletries and regularly re-stocked welcome tray. We are now having great 'withdrawal symptoms' from having left two wonderful hosts.
