The Market Hotel & Restaurant has been open since October 2004, and although it functions normally and is working as if it were, it is not finished yet. At the moment it has 33 rooms, and at the end it will have about 80. All the rooms have full-equipped bathroom, air conditioning, central heating, cable TV, free internet access and phone, and although all they look similar, they are not all the same, and there are also different types of rooms.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Stayed in this hotel 3 nights. Very comfy and big rooms. Also very nice toiletries. The only down that they weren’t any windows on our room.
Very close to the plaza of Catalunya like 15min walk, loads of restaurants and nice place to have breakfast front of the hotel where u pay around 8€ for two people.
We took the hop on hop off as its always worth it.

The staff were pleasant enough on arrival but not particularly friendly. The hotel is in a nice location. Sant Antoni is a lovely area with trees and cafes and has good connections to the rest of the city. The room we stayed in was very dark and stuffy. Both windows opened out to a dark and smelly gap between the buildings. You wouldn't know what time of day it was as the room was always very dark. It is also very noisy and you can hear other rooms talking, walking, the sound of a telephone kept going off and there was also building works going on. Wouldn't really recommend this hotel unless you stay in a much nicer room.

Stayed for 3 nights in January. Interesting hotel with beautiful old lift. We had a very comfortable and big room with a balcony onto the street. Market Hotel is within walking distance of most things. We ate in the bar but not in the restaurant, bar food was tasty. Would definitely recommend.

I agree with the guests writing that hotel is in a good location and a nice entrance area but the rooms are very noisy with constant sounds from water pipes and toilets flushing. The room / door has limited sound insulation making for a bad nights sleep from noise in corridor with other guests and housekeeping. We asked to change the room and explained the reason but the staff pretended they did not know about the problem. They also initially gave us the room not as decribed on the web. Overall the staff did not care much and lied about the manager being unavailable at the weekend as the manager even did not put any efford to respond to our email later. Hotel is quite tired and feels like a posh hostel. Breakfast was cheap but food not great including cold cooked items.

The reception of the hotel is lovely, however it is basically the entrance to the restaurant. This hotel is a restaurant with some rooms attached, not an actual hotel. Pedro on reception was cold, unfriendly and aloof. Little did I know my boyfriend had intended to propose to me in Barcelona and had arranged with the manager to get a better room. However when we went to check in Pedro gave us a basic standard room - it had no balcony twin beds and a tiny window. We asked to have a different room, purely because the actual room we booked at least said it came with a balcony, which is tiny by the way! We had to wait until 3pm to get a room with one large bed and a balcony.

The rooms feel dirty, there were stains on the curtains and walls. The rooms are actually in the building next door so there are also people who live in the building as well. The area is okay however after walking all over Barcelona there are most certainly nicer locations. This is three star for a reason, I wish we had not booked this hotel.

We are going back to Barcelona at the end of our trip and will not be staying here, for the same price we have found a hotel that looks clean and is in a much better area.

Luckily the proposal was perfect - unlike this hotel.

It was my 5th time i stay in this hotel.this time i have a weird experience. I come after my work in my room around 8 pm and tired and the guy from reception call me. He wake me up while i was sleeping(resting) and i ask if i am in my room, i said yes and he said he want to come in my room, I asked why what is the reason and he reply for something. which i didnt understand. in few minuets he come in room and without asking anything he go directly to the wardrobe and top of it he pick around 20 condoms, and said it was belong to some other customers. I was really shocked after his reply, i do not understand that , normally people forget phone ,charger cloths or other belongings in room and they come back for it but CONDOMS , what was it ? they can pick it after i finish my stay there , It was not a urgent matter and i even didnt know about that . i ask him explination but no reply. next morning i ask about to talk to hotel manager and they said he is on holidays and will be back next week. I call to company head office and talk to somebody and gave my contact number, that guy guy said that they will contact me same day but no reply yet after more then one week, how they care? i could not sleep after that because i was not sure what happen in that room and it was enough clean or sanitize in this corona virus time. I am still waiting for reply .

Solo travelled this weekend and stayed here with regret. I paid almost 300 euros for the two nights of no sleep and smelly drains.

Both nights I was woken up by street noise, or music playing in another room (because the walls are paper thin).

The bathroom was dirty and the drains stunk. The blinds were broken and torn. There was no power outlet aside from in the bathroom.

Highly disappointing. I tried to
Move rooms but was unsuccessful. I highly doubt the rest of the hotel
Looked different though.

You could
Easily be fooled by the online pictures or the reception area as both are nice and on par with the money. The rooms are not far away from a hostel
Room though.

I will not stay here again and I would not recommend.

First the positives, beautiful building, restored thoughtfully. Sits in a fairly quiet street. 15 minutes walk to Las Ramblas & the Barri Gotic. Also a large comfy drench shower.

Negatives however outweigh those positives. Room was small, as expected, I’d booked a single. However, it had two windows that could be opened, but they opened into what seemed to be a dingy service area.

They had to be opened as the room was overwhelmingly hot. That then let in the smell of what appeared to be drains. There was also a persistent sound of running water. Thinking about it later, I guess it was drains being flushed. There was also a constant pitter patter sound, like someone slapping something. This continued throughout the night.

This was all in February which had been unseasonably cold. I dread to think what this room would be like in the middle of summer. There was an air on unit high on the way. But I certainly wouldn’t take a chance on it.

Sadly despite the building being very beautiful, I wouldn’t consider it again.

One of the worst hotels I’ve been in my life. Near to Sant Antoni Market, it’s impossible to sleep and to rest when outside are people making noise the whole night.

At the first time, around 4:30am, we asked the receptionist but he told us that it is what it is.

I just could sleep 3h, because after 4am the noise didn’t stop.

The worse was about to come, when in the morning the receptionist (other guy), told me to “no chiar”, a sound that only animals do.

After asked for his name, he didn’t give it to me. Fortunately that was another women that helped me to reach the manager to make a complain about the noise during the night.

I would like to express my disappointment to the whole experience, that’s a lot of good hotels in Barcelona, when you’re treated well and you can rest.

Hotel Market is not one of those.

Have been multiple times to this hotel for business and privately.
Nice and friendly people, rooms are clean and modern furniture. Breakfast is fine as well.
Personally I love the old fashioned elevator (there are very modern ones as well), it gives a good look at how it used to be.
This makes the hotel not a standard (super)chain hotel but cosy and more intemate.
Tip: always book a double room, the 1 person rooms have no streetview.
