Just ended a 10 day stay at the HIE Uhmalanga. Agree with other reviews - very much a Holiday Inn. Basic amenities and services. What sets them apart is the service. Lunga was fantastic! Very helpful, kind, thoughtful and anticipatory. He made what could have been a difficult check in easy, supported with transportation and dinner needs and was kind! I am also grateful to the Manager who supported breakfast each day. She also went above and beyond and offered a smile each morning. I was at this hotel on business so didn’t have a choice, but when I return will definitely stay here. $5 to the beach, 5 min walk to the mall. If you want an excellent tour guide to show you real (and not tourist Durban) book Thansanqa (msg me for this details). He took us on safari, told us about Durban and it’s history and took the story beyond only Black trauma and suffering to show joy, resilience and love! Had an amazing time! If booking from Canada use travelead to book your experience. Overall had an amazing time!

From the moment we arrived, the assistance was friendly and efficient.
The rooms are clean and comfortable - with similar facilities to other hotels
There is a swimming pool, restaurant and more on the premises
Breakfast is included and offers a variety of general breakfast options. The only area to improve on is quality of coffee. There is also muffins and coffee that can be taken away for breakfast on the run
All in all a comfortable and good option in the area

Stayed here for a holiday in KwaZulu-Natal. It’s in easy reach of the International Airport & offers guest secure parking (for a small fee circa ZAR 50).
The rooms are typical Holiday Inn Express; basic but with everything you need; safe, tea/coffee, mini fridge. Housekeeping, was good on the whole, the room & bedding were clean. Towels changed when required.
The were a few minor issues, ie air con going off, but remedied on request.
There is a small pool & gym.
The Butchers Block serves good food & reasonable prices. The ring & collect (from reception) was a bit hit & miss.
The Gateway Mall with plenty of good eateries is within walking distance (adjacent to the hospital).
There was a lot of building work on new hotels/facilities in the area, but there was no disruption or noise pollution.
We’d stay here again.

Very efficient staff who made the stay very easy and comfortable. The room was very clean and tidy, although no bath. The hotel is situated in a quiet location within easy access of the gatway shopping centre.

And always as good as I expect. Many thanks. Big spacious rooms, conveniently situated within walking distance to a garage, shop and mall. The area is safe and the atmosphere is great in the courtyard. A pool and restaurant on site leave a guest completely catered for.

Holiday Inn Express in Umhlanga is quite a exquisite 3-star hotel with great amenities which also include a pool, gym and a bar, excellent service and delicious food. The ambiance and outlook is amazing, and is centrally located with ease of access to various activities (Shopping at Gateway Mall, etc.) around the hotel and in the urban heart of Umhlanga within reach of other splendid developments.

The hotel was terrible. The breakfast was awful, had extremely limited options and was blind. You could not even select how you want your eggs done. The pool is the size of a part of a kiddies pool at other hotels. The bathroom is very cramped and small. I could go on. Save you money and stay elsewhere. This was JUST AWFUL.

Stayed at the HIE Durban for business. The hotel is by the coast but with no direct access. As with most HIE, the rooms are rather small and facilities are limited but this is expected.
The room was clean and very functional. Decent size for one person. The ocean view was a bonus.
Breakfast was great. Very good selection of hot and cold items. Allowed take out boxes even if you already had breakfast which was great given my work schedule - one less thing to worry about. The coffee however was very disappointing.
Staff were great. Very friendly and eager to help.
The mall is within walking distance from the hotel... Probably a quick 10 min stroll.

We were on a business trip to Durban and this hotel is situated at one the very best area.
This property is good and kind of new. The interior and other part is good. We were given upgrade and given sea facing rooms. Rooms were good and spaicous for a single person. However the Bathroom and shower cabin is too small. I was not able comfortable in it
The biggest issue with them was their menu in breakfast we spent three days here and food was same every morning they were not able to surprise us.
The room service is bad. My keys was not working and I had to get down all the way back to receptionist ro get it changed.
Over all compare to other holiday in.iblike this property.

This HIE does what it says it will. Clean, neat, excellent service from all team members. Ocean view rooms are nice to have. Breakfast was standard for this type of hotel but could have had more cooked vegan options. Overall I recommend this hotel for short business stays. Well done to the team.
