This small chapel designed by Oscar Niemeyer was the first to be built in Brasilia. It is decorated with wonderful azulejos by Athos Bulcao and frescoes by Alfredo Volpi.

The Little Church is not only a wonderful work of architecture on its own, but it also illustrates the concept of the superquadra layout in Brasilia, and the conscious placement of public and religious institutions in relation to the residential buildings and local commercial strip between the superblocks. This particular treasure is well-loved, and for good reason, as the sweeping curves and gorgeous tiles make it an eye-catching local landmark.

A sweet little chapel in one of the residential squares is worth visiting to appreciate that modern architectural can be inviting and charming and full of warmth. The one room space does not take much time to take in, the images of the kites flying to be closer to heaven will stay with you.

Charming, the Little Church as it is known, was the first church in the city. Although is a bit far from other touristic places, I would say the visit is worth it. There’s also Athos Bulcão’s tiles on it, which make it more special.
