Refugio Grey is celebrated for its prime location, which guests find convenient for exploring nearby scenic spots, and its vibrant atmosphere, though the latter may not suit those seeking tranquility. Cleanliness is a highlight, with visitors commending the tidy rooms and facilities. While the amenities generally receive positive feedback, some guests suggest there is room for improvement. Travelers have mixed feelings about the rooms and note the food is pricey and underwhelming. Additionally, while the service is deemed friendly, the call for more consistent upkeep is evident.

We stayed here one night. We took the 11am catamaran, hiked to refugio grey (about 3.5 hours), stayed the night, then hiked to the suspension bridges and back to Paine grande for the 5pm catamaran the next day with plenty of time to spare. We only hiked to the second suspension bridge as we heard the third bridge was not worth the hike. Hike past the second suspension bridge about 10 min for an incredible view. Refugio grey was nicer than we thought. We stayed in a dorm with 4 beds. Everyone was very nice and considerate. They had black out curtains so we slept really well.

We did the full board package with dinner, breakfast and packed lunch. Food was good and service was excellent. It is a well run place. They provided gluten free meals for me but told me they cannot guarantee it will be totally gluten free because it is a small kitchen. They made sure to prepare my food on clean surfaces using clean utensils. I have celiac and did not get sick.

Bar is fun - good atmosphere with great drinks, snacks and good service.

This is expensive - for example the bedding alone is $50 pp. But it was worth it to us because we wanted to see the suspension bridges but were not planning on doing the entire O circuit and it would be difficult to reach the bridges and back in one day. Would stay again!

When completing the O trek the stay here at Refugio Grey was awesome. I had a bed inside the refugio! The package that Vertice made available to me was 3 nights in refugio's and 4 nights in a prepared tent (w/ pad and bag) and it also included all of my food each day. I just brought lots of protein bars and snacks. Don't slip up and forget snickers bars! Buy them before you get to Puerto Natales too or be prepared to pay the piper :))

My Day 4 was the most difficult part of the O trek, in my opinion, the John Garner Pass (Grey Glacier). It took us 7 hours, but we were flying and taking chances. The UK guy (Jason M.) that I followed was literally running down the descending part after we cleared the snowy ascend. Seeing grey glacier was insanely beautiful!

When I got to the Grey camp I let the manager, Carla, know that I had left my phone back at Los Perros camp. Carla saved the day and tracked my phone down. She devised a plan to bring it to my hostel in Puerto Natales on her day off because there was no way for my phone to catch up to me on the remaining 4 days on my trek! Carla saved my freaking life...well digital life :)

Thank you so much Vertice staff. I had a good trip despite the rain and wet feet! WARNING: bring boots that are actually waterproof and don't just trust them. I heard that gore-tex is the only way to stay dry. My Merrell, "waterproof", boots did not fair well in the wet grass and continuous rain. Merrell...here's your chance to make good on my boot problems. I want to test out your gore-tex options!

My partner and I stayed at Refugio Grey Camping where we pitched our own tent and spent the night there on the last night of the W Trek. We were one of the first to check into the campsite, so we had our pick on which spot to take. We had a pretty decent sleep at Grey.

Another cool aspect of Refugio Grey is that there is a Mirador (View point) really close by for the Grey Glacier if you continue down the camping area path for 5-10min. It's really secluded and at the time we went there was no one else there. Really beautiful views of the Grey Glacier.

Grey had the newest looking facilities our of all the Refugios. The camping showers were very clean compared to others we encountered on the Trek. I also decided to opt for the full board option. The dinner was quite good - we were served bread, soup, main meat dish and a dessert. The breakfast was yogurt and cereal, scrambled eggs, bread + ham/cheese. The lunch box contained a large sandwich and a variety of snacks. We ended up with so many snacks that we gave some away to backpackers doing the O Trek who were running low on food. The 2 main issues I did encounter were that the paid WiFi connection was very flaky (however it's nice that they offer this amenity to guests). The camping bathrooms were being cleaned at 9:00AM when everyone was trying to use them. We ended up going into the main Refugio to use their bathroom.

We hiked the O Circuit and this refugio was hands down the worst one we experienced on the trail. First, the quality and quantity of the food was bad. OK, I understand you don't go to a refugio for the culinary experience, but Seron and Dickson, both refugios with far greater logistical supply difficulties, had no problem putting an imaginative, filling and healthy meal on the table. Second, they know people want to get an early start on the day, be it that they want to hit the trail early or that their excursions start at early, but by 8:30 there was still no breakfast in sight. Third, whatever you asked for or whatever you did, the response was "NO." No, you cannot sit on the bench to tie your laces. No, you may not move that bench so a group can sit and play cards. No, you cannot have a spoon outside of established eating hours. Every request, no matter how small, was too much for the staff at Grey. Fourth, bathroom bins are emptied during the day before new guests arrive. But is it too much to ask that they also be emptied late at night when everyone is in bed so you don't encounter overflowing bins first thing in the morning? Lastly, the staff does not seem to like their jobs and would prefer being somewhere else. They are grumpy and morose. Contrast that with the cool and incredible people who run the other refufgios and you understand why I label Grey, RefugiNO. Problem is, what other option do you have between Perros and Paine Grande? Maybe a bit of competition for the concession would improve the situation!

We stayed here the last night of our trip and it was a great experience. The bunk rooms are smaller with only 2 sets of bunk beds and these were the most comfortable or the whole trek! Plenty of storage space for gear. The communal bathrooms and showers were pretty clean. There were wood stoves to make common areas although they did not have as much common space as the other refugios. The food and drinks were good. There is a room to store your backpack while you hike up to see the suspension bridges or check out the incredible lookout over Grey Glacier and the icebergs. Highly recommend taking the Grey 3 Navigation across the Lake as it takes you right up to 3 faces of the glacier and it yields quite fantastic views, but that does require setting up private transportation back to Puerto Natales as there are no buses that go to the south end of lake grey.

The Grey refugio is a gem on the W or O trek! After 5 nights camping on the O trek, this refugio offers great food, clean rooms, a fireplace to get warm (and dry) and the staff is super friendly!
Valentina was a great host and went above and beyond to answer all questions and made sure the refugio is a great place to stay! 5/5 recommended!

Really good campsite! We stayed here for the first night of our W trek and rented a tent, sleeping bag and mat. All were really good quality and kept us warm.
There is also a warm kitchen that you can cook and eat in, and warm showers, toilets and bins.
You can also leave your bags here whilst walking to the suspension bridges.

Our 4th and last refugio on the W trek. Rooms are OK in principal but the thing that was not good at all was that you can’t open the windows. They took of the handles and somehow fixed the windows. If you’ve 6 persons sleeping in a small room, especially with all the hiking cloths and bags after a long day of hiking, be assured that not fun.
There is a small bar area where you can sit and relax with a drink or more. Canteen/restaurant is next it, furnished with large tables that you share with other guests. Food in quality & size is OK.
But again, I don’t how who’s brainchild it was to remove window handles and leave the windows permanently closed

Fantastic location for a Refugio and campsite. Unfortunately the facilities are too small for the large number of campers ( kitchen can not accommodate everyone in the morning, long wait for showers etc).
By far the biggest area for improvement is the cleanliness! The bathrooms and showers were dirty and unpleasant to be in unless they had just been cleaned. Toilets were blocked and there was used toilet paper all over the floor and blood splattered toilet doors. Clearly the bathrooms need to be cleaned more than once a day when you have such a high volume of campers.

Hi There were power outlets in all the Refugios to charge your devices. These were in the common area and in the rooms. Wi-Fi was available for a cost (I didn't use it for the 5 days though so don't know how quick it is). Weather was cool and windy but while walking it was OK. It snowed on day 1 for us
