Cardozo South Beach offers a lively ambiance with its retro artwork and live music, although some guests have pointed out noise issues. While the hotel's cleanliness and amenities—including complimentary coffee and beach gear—are often commended, opinions on the rooms vary; some guests find them cozy and well-kept, others consider them cramped. The location is a standout feature, with easy access to the beach and local hotspots. Despite the staff earning high marks for their friendliness, travelers have voiced concerns over value for money and billing practices.

Clare J wrote a review Feb 2020
Farnham, United Kingdom
As first timers to Miami Beach the Cardozo was a great central location for beach and the historic district and a fine example of an Art Deco building, and we felt a fair price for the rooms. Very clean in communal areas and the bedrooms, and everyone polite and friendly, plus the beach arrangement with towels and sun beds included worked well (albeit we were surprised that a strict closure time of 5pm for using the beds was enforced by the determined beach staff, a little early we felt).
Unfortunately our 1st room (201 from memory), although an ocean view king and very nice, was directly over the bar/restaurant with music played very loud reverberating through the floor, and to be honest you couldn’t really see the sea as it’s a fair way forward with large corporate type marquees dominating that part of the beach. However for nights 2-4 the hotel moved us to 323, a lovely corner room towards the back but actually a better glimpse of sea and much quieter (plus $50 a night cheaper!)The hotel was great about this, helping us to move and keen to make sure we were happy.
Only pointers for improvement we’d say were (1) no pillow protectors on the pillows leaving us wondering about hygiene as they get used more (we didn’t check for mattress protector but same worry applied), (2) no mirrors in the bedroom area AT ALL. There was a bathroom mirror over the sink and a full length mirror on the inside of the bathroom door (we couldn’t see why as who wants to see themselves on the loo) but no full length mirror in the large bedroom itself or even a small mirror where you could set up a dressing table area to do make up etc whilst husband in the bathroom (our 2nd room had a handy 2nd vanity sink in the bedroom but we couldn’t use this for shaving/make up whilst the other person was is the bathroom as there was no mirror over it, and (3) we felt the staff, whilst lovely, lacked any knowledge of the area or basics such as “is there a fixed taxi price to the airport” or “can I buy a ticket on the bus or do I need to buy from a shop”, questions we’d expect all hotel reception staff to be able to help with but we just got a “I don’t know/I’m not sure” which was a little surprising. They also had no paper maps of the area or free tourist leaflets and when we asked looked as if we’d asked for something very unusual (we appreciate younger couples don’t use such things but floor us middle aged we find them useful :) !).
Anyway we did enjoy the hotel and would recommend it, but hope our feedback is useful.

From the beginning of out stay we were welcomed by the front desk Manager, Camila, she was very sweet and friendly. Once arriving to our room, it was extremely cleaned, smelled very fresh and overall was amazing. When planning a trip we especially look for accommodations to our puppy and this hotel was more than accommodating and our puppy felt safe. Overall experience at this hotel was a 10/10. The location of the hotel was marvelous, with a 5 minute walking distance of the beach and very close to delicious restaurants. Will highly recommend this to family and friends. We will be back soon!!

The Cardozo Hotel is by far the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The beds are very comfortable, I slept like a king. The room has plenty of lights with many manageable switches so my wife was able to easily put makeup on without bothering me at all. Enough outlets to charge all my electronics, and the water pressure from the shower magnificent. I could spend all day describing how clean the room was and how awesome and convenient the location of the hotel is but in all honesty nothing would matter if it wasn't for the all star team this GEM property has.

They have taken guest service to a whole other level, from the guy in the mornings to the ladies at night. All my many requests were answered fast and with a smile, their understanding and helpful recommendations have made the Cardozo my place to stay when down in Miami Beach.

the staff wasn't very friendly to check in/check out or in the lobby bar. they could care less about you standing there and were not friendly. And stairs were closed for some reason which is a fire hazard so we had to wait awhile for the elevator.

This is in a great location where you don't hear as much but make sure you pack ear plugs as things don't get started until midnight with noise!

Also, the fee for the resort should be for those that will use the items. We were there only to sleep and left in the morning and had to pay the fee and didn't get to enjoy the beach.

Katherine and Ryan - Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay. I sincerely apologize for taking so long to get back to you. First of all, I hope both of you are well. I appreciate your feedback about your check-in/out experience and will use your comments to continue training our staff. Friendly, personal service makes all the difference in the guest experience and I apologize that we missed the mark. I'm glad you enjoyed our location in the heart of Ocean Drive and I do want to let you know that we do have complimentary earplugs and sleep masks available. Concerning the nightly amenity fee, I'm sorry you were unable to enjoy the beach this time around, but I do want to advise that in addition to the beach chairs and umbrella, the fee also includes member access to Crunch Fitness, high-speed wireless internet throughout the hotel. Again, thank you for your candid feedback about your experience. I truly hope we're able to welcome you back to Cardozo South Beach again in the future. Sincerely, Stephen Smith Hotel Manager

Check in and check out we’re a breeze
This hotel will throw you off from the outside it looks dated but ,It is in the historical district so not all things can be changed but they did a amazing job. Inside it is magnificent. Beautiful and clean many recent upgrades and remodeled. Very clean and contemporary design with gold accents and hinds of natural materials throughout. A little bit of sparkle here and there in the finishes. The entrance is welcoming and comfortable seating out front in the shaded entryway just calls you in. The lobby is small but beautiful and you don’t go to a beach front hotel to hang out in the lobby so I don’t have a complaint about that. No valet at this time and no restaurant yet (Covid-19 effected these perks) The parking garage was perfect right next door we had no problem getting a spot. Toiletries are great quality and smell good. I originally booked through a 3rd party site the king ocean front room. I highly recommend going to the hotels website directly for your booking as they have several different options and pricing was the same but you won’t be disappointed when you arrive and find out something isn’t what it appeared on a 3rd party site. I was SO disappointed there was no soaking tub in my room, that was a huge thing for me. We checked with the front desk and they immediately upgraded us to a room with the soaking tub! This location is spectacular. On the boardwalk, plenty of restaurants and bars close by. We cruise several times a year ,before COVID, from Miami port and will definitely be staying again! The staff ,again Stephen and Camilla, makes every hotel stay what it is and here they truly want you to enjoy your stay!

First the positives.. Excellent location on Ocean Drive, clean lobby, beach towels and 2 chairs (from another company), a few bicycles.
Now negatives.. Stayed 6 nights and room only cleaned once although we requested several times, unhelpful attitude from front desk for that cleaning (as though it was a favor), very difficult to fall asleep..we could clearly hear conversations in room next door and in hallway (zero sound insulation!), has blinds instead of curtains so sunlight would pour in (only one window had a shade behind it), hotel restaurant facing Ocean Dr was closed and had yellow tape outside, and last but not least.. No Private Parking! Had to try to park in public garage next door which is always FULL.
Will not stay there again.

We loved the location of the hotel. It was in the middle of everything. Our room was spacious with a large shower. Although we were on Ocean Drive, the room was sound proofed so that we heard not noise. The hotel provided bikes which we used and also a free breakfast. We were able to eat on the patio. We did not utilize the free beach chairs.

Absolutely extraordinary. I had a 5 star stay! The hotel, the staff, the views, the location. First, the staff went above and beyond to help me as I had wanted to host a cocktail reception on the terrace, and it rained - they knew I was upset, and they offered me a private and gorgeous room. Steven and his team went above and beyond the call of duty. The hotel is in the absolute best location, and sparkles from its recent renovation. My room was gorgeous, and every morning there was hot coffee in the halls for the guests - something I really appreciated. I had the best time - loved every single second at this gorgeous art deco gem. Stay here, have a ball, and live in the historic art deco style, upgrading with the highest quality 21st century renovations. You will have a super time.

We had booked into the Hampton Inn at 17th and Collins, but decided to change for the last three nights, since the Hampton was a bit filthy and coffee and breakfast are a challenge. So we booked the Cardozo for Dec 4 to 7, 2020. The room itself was 'all white' and newly remodeled and basically clean. But. No Kleenex We asked but they said couldn't have due to the virus. I said, 'well I've stayed in hotels 100 nights since the virus started, and they all had Kleenex. So, they brought us another roll of toilet paper? Really. The tall mirror was on the inside of the bathroom door, very non user friendly location. No mirror in the room per se. Coffee and hot water for tea was at the end of the hall, some days but not all. Forgot? Ran out? No pool no breakfast slow internet, sometimes coffee, so what does the $24 per day 'Resort Fee' cover?? The beautiful lobby is closed, don't know why? Virus might get you !! Our A/C unit in the ceiling by the bathroom buzzed and hummed and made all kinks of weird noises, and we complained twice, only to be told by a staff member that this is normal for the A/C and nothing is wrong. I call BullShxt! on this response. Beautiful property. Too bad they don't realize that guests need be respected and listened to, and given some basic creature comforts. Maybe Gloria and Emilio need to come down and stay in their Hotel a few nights !!

Pros:
Check-in was easy even when arriving late in the evening. You are literally across the street from the beach and they do provide towels and chairs for you to use on a daily basis. Breakfast was included however there are a few items on the list that you would have to pay for if you wanted them.

Cons: Beware of room 206!! That is the room we stayed in and it was literally right next to the elevator. And the only elevator in the hotel at that! Any time some one would use the elevator you would hear it , and not just a little noise..no you heard it loudly. The hotel was full of party people who would pretty much talk all night long in the hallway of course disrupting your ability to get a good night's rest. The very first night we were unable to sleep as the elevator was being used all throughout the night into the early hours of the morning. We asked the front desk to switch rooms and she assured us that we would be able too as soon as a few of the noisey groups checked out. However even with the checkouts she wasn't able too. She never asked us again if the noise problem had settled down or not or if we were at all sleeping okay thought out the night. We were very aware of the chaos insuing during the spring break madness but it's safe to say that it was more chaos than we expected. Miami is not the same. There is an 8 PM curfew that restaurants but we were okay knowing we had room service.. or at least we thought we did. We tried to get room service but was told that due to the curfew the kitchen was also closed by 8PM. The very next day I decided to ask again and was told that the kitchen closed at 11 PM. Very confused I asked as to why I was told the kitchen closed at 8 PM the night prior but no one had an answer for me. The hotel was said to be a very family oriented hotel but we beg to differ. For the price of the stay, the rooms and showers were small and the overall attentiveness to the customers was okay. Not great, just okay. Every question we had was put on hold to be answered by someone else as if no one could answer it on their own. The inside of the hotel maintained cleanliness but the outside could use some TLC. The entire south beach strip is not at all what we expected it to be. I would give it some time before booking a trip to South Beach Miami. For the price you pay overall, it isn't worth it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience. I am very sorry you had such a disappointing experience and I apologize that we failed to meet and exceed your expectations. While the curfews have recently been lifted and the beach has returned to its calm beach vibes with vibrant culture and nightlife, I understand this does little to change the experience you had. I do hope you'll return to Miami Beach in the future to try our beautiful destination once more. Sincerely, Stephen Smith Hotel Manager
