This is the perfect guesthouse to make the most of your stay on amazing Atiu. First, you will be welcomed at the airstrip with a divine local flowers and plants garland and you will be introduced to the main places of the island on the way to the guesthouse.
The house is very nicely decorated with Andrea's originals tivaivai embroideries. There is everything you need in the shared kitchen and the bathroom is basic but comfortable. The location of the house is perfect, in the heart of the village. Both outside and inside lounges are very comfortable. As it used to be a family house, you will feel at home!
Juergen or Andrea will arrange for you any tours you would be interested in. I would highly recommend George's bird and nature tour and the AnaTakitaki cave tour. But I am sure the other activities are worth the visit too. If you have a spare day, you can rent a small truck at the shop nearby and make your own tour of the island. And go freely to the coral gardens for instance.

The Atiu Guesthouse is a wonderful place to stay on Atiu. It's run by Jurgen the Coffeeman of the Island and his wife who are allways available if you have a question and they help you planing your stay on Atiu. The Guesthouse is located in the middle of the village close to the three shops of the island. The guesthouse offers all the basic facilities you need. The rooms are big and equiped with ventilator and mosquitonet on the windows, the beds are comfortable and you get free towels. Kitchen, bathroom are clean and comfortable. Jurgen always offers some of his own island coffee, a delicious and special gift to take home by the way. This is really a lonely island with aprox. 450 people, far away of home, but this makes it a unforgetable experience, on Atiu are living the most friendly people on earth. I stayed 3 nights on Atiu and really recommend this trip to everyone who is planing a trip to Cook Island. Rent a scooter at the shop and explore the island by your self. Driving around the Island takes around 1h. Book a tour with George the birdman who takes you on a trip around the island and shows you the unique nature of Atiu, have lunch on the beach with him with local food (fish, chicken, fruits, vegetables amazing!!). Marshall will take you on a trip to special caves of Atiu, without a guide you would never guess where the entrance is. Jurgen will show you his coffeeplantation, they harvest, dry and roast their coffee. This coffee is really tasty and exclusiv.

We stayed for 3 nights in the Atiu guesthouse and we should have stayed at least 5 days. Atiu and all of the people on the island were the most accomidating and friendlest people we have ever encountered. If the thought of being 1 of 11 tourists on an island peaks your interest this is the place to be. Jurgen and Andrea were so accomidating and guided us on the must see things in 3 days on the island. One day i'll go back and I'd be thrilled to stay in the guesthouse again. For the value you cannot get much better. The windows allow for good circulation and it is very clean from the floors to the linens. Stay here it's a cultural experience you will not find anywhere else.

Excellent place to stay with wonderful hosts. I was shown the textile museum and the coffee plantation also operated by the very kind owners of this lodge. It's best to stay more than a couple of days, if you want to get the most out of the experience. Very friendly local population. Sure beats the mega-resorts on Rarotonga. Will definitely stay here again and can't wait to be back.

Juergen picked me up from the airstrip and chatted about the island as we headed back to the guesthouse. He also manages the coffee business on the island (popn ~450) and offered to arrange tours with local operators as well as his own tour of the plantation and production, ending with a tasting at his place (which also hosts the Fibre Arts Studio run by his wife Andrea).
The guesthouse is well located near the centre of town, although nothing is too far away on Atiu! The rooms are simple and clean, as is the bathroom, kitchen and lounge area, similar to a hostel style (but much smaller with just three rooms) and appropriate for the island. The neighbours are friendly, but if you're a light sleeper the more-or-less 24-hour Cook Is Radio played next door might be a problem (I slept OK). There is no hot water, but in the tropical warmth it's not an issue, and small amounts can be boiled in the kettle (all drinking water should be boiled) in the kitchen, which also contains a toaster and fridge/freezer for food.
While food is available on the island, it's advisable to bring some of your own if you can. There are limited options for dinner and besides the hamburger place in the centre, you normally need to book a meal eg with Atiu Villas down the road, or self-cater.
The lounge has a table and comfortable chairs plus a shelf of books (including many in German), and outdoors there are tables and chairs in shade for relaxing and watching the (island) world go by.
Bikes & scooters can be hired from the place next to the hamburger outlet. On Sundays, most places are closed, but some tours still run if pre-booked, and if you like the singing, the Cook Is and Catholic churches are in full cry and visitors are welcome. I recommend tours to the Anatakitaki Caves with Marshall and around the island with Birdman George, both a wealth of knowledge and humour.
Atiu gets about 2000-2500 visitors a year, staying for just a few nights each, so it's peaceful, beautiful and well worth visiting. It's a raised coral atoll (makatea), so sturdy footwear is recommended. It can be reached by air (~40 mins) from Rarotonga or Aitutaki.

It was just perfect! We stayed there for three days in september 2011. The accomodation is very clean and comfortable. The hosts were very nice. Juergen organized all our trips and helped whenever it was needed. Atiu is just a wonderful place to stay and we fully recommend visiting this island to everybody coming to the Cook Islands.

Very good basic accomodation- your own private room and shared facilities- kitchen, bath, shower, living, dining.
Excellent value for backpackers and those trying to save their money for activities and food. (Highly recommended!)
I stayed for 3 days and half of it was raining. I hope to be back! I was able to do the eco-tour with Birdman George and the Atiu coffee and both were excellent!
What I enjoyed the most is that it's not only about experiencing the history, views, birds, coffee, caves, etc. but getting to know Juergen, Andrea, and George- the people who make it all alive and so much more meaningful.

The owners of this cottage also own Atiu Coffee and the island's Fibre Arts Gallery/Studio. So, if you wish to tour either one, it couldn't be more convenient. Jurgen and Andrea were both very nice and easy to talk with. The house is comfortable and the kitchen is large and well equipped. It's right in the middle of the village, so you can sit and watch island life from the porch. My only complaint was that the neighborhood can be very noisy in the mornings.

A friend and I stayed here for only a couple of nights. Jurgen was absolutely great and sorted out some tours so that we could do as much as possible in the short time we were there. As it turned out we were two of only three tourists on the island which makes it a pretty incredible place.
The guest house is very comfortable and very well located. There's a shop only 100 metres away and a few places to eat nearby. I'd recommend getting a scooter (also nearby) so that you can see more of the island. And see the caves and the coffee plantations!

Unfourtunately, we stayed only 2 days on Atiu at Atiu Guesthouse. For us, it was the most special island we had visited on the Cook Islands. Jürgen and Andrea were great hosts. They care about their guests (esp. they help you planning your stay). Everything was clean and comfortable. In addition, you'll have a good price for that accomodation.
Don't miss talking to the QUEEN of Atiu in one of the 3 shops :-)
Thanks again, Jürgen & Andrea, for these great 2 days! We really miss the Cook Islands.
