My wife and I enjoyed an excellent 2 night stay at Room Mate Mario. Very central and beside Opera house and very short distance to Royal Palace. Sol and Mayor plaza a 5 minute walk and Retiro Park a leisurely 25 minutes even in heat. Very clean throughout and modern decor. Can’t comment on breakfast. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Offered to book taxi but there is a busy plaza and taxi rank 1 minute away so no need, but it was nice to have it offered. As celebrating a wedding anniversary they very kindly and unexpectedly left a small bottle of champagne and personalised card in the room. Thank you. Slight negatives was returning to hotel after 13.30 to find cleaners not having completed their work and so not possible to chill and size of room smaller than expected, but just about ok for 2 nights though we had several suit cases as going on to Lanzarote for a week after 3 days in Madrid. However, still a wonderful hotel, on a sensible budget, very central, clean and lovely staff. Would certainly recommend and use again without hesitation.

The Room Mate Mario in Madrid fits all of my travel needs: whilst the rooms are quite small, this is not unusual for the city as the hotels have been created from original dwellings. In city area, space is at a premium and, therefore, the rooms are compact. I travel mainly on business so this hotel suits me perfectly
The staff make this hotel so much more than a place to lay your head. I feel that I have become a valued member of their family and the smiles from reception to the breakfast room are genuine. As an example: a year ago I checked in on the day before my birthday and, unbeknownst to me, a note was made. Fantastic location with a very short walk to Opera tube station. Madrid is very walkable and most places are easy to reach from Mario Mate. Our room was quite groovy looking and had a really good heating system which was good as it was pretty cold! Breakfast is fabulous with everything you could think of and more! Reception staff were very helpful and spoke good English. The only down point would be thicker curtains as they were too light and don’t buy any wine from Dia (shop almost next door) as we had to bottles which were off and they wouldn’t refund. Find a Carrefours as the quality is MUCH better for everything. Oh. We had room service which was very nice quality and biked to us in a smart box, rather swish! We would definitely use this hotel again. :)

This was our second stay at Mario, although it’s been quite a few years between visits. We have also stayed at other Room Mates in Madrid but this might be our favorite.
We booked a suite, which we always do at RM hotels. It gives you a bigger space and amenities which we love.
This one was close to the elevator so there was more noise than I expected, but the room was spacious, comfortable, had a good soaking tub, two little balconies, and a coffee machine. Housekeeping was excellent and left us treats each day.
The location is extremely hard to beat- so close to all the touristy things, good restaurants, and also within walking distance of plenty of neighborhoods off the beaten track.
The staff is another strong point- always so eager to make sure you have the best stay and answer any questions, arrange taxis, give you a bottle opener, etc :)
Thanks to Room Mate Mario and the staff for making our return trip to Madrid a great one.

If you are regular to this chain you would get it immediately. Staff at Room Mate are different than any chain, they always smiling, and very attentive to all details, they go beyond duty lines to make you feel comfortable during your stay... This is simply what I have seen in all roommates I stayed with and particularly in Room Mate Mario .. Full mark goes to the Front office team and their Manager Silvia. The hotel is situated just a few steps from the Opera underground station and just one stop from gran Via and Sol. Keep it up yet a little update/renovation to the property is required.

I was very impressed by the service from this hotel. Every single hotel staff was very professional, friendly and gave me a warm welcome. Especially all the 3 receptionists I dealt with, I felt like they went an extra mile to make my stay all the more comfortable. They even made some time to help me with some Spanish! (Which became very helpful by the way) My favorite part about the hotel service is that they offered to hold my baggage even after check out so that I could get around the city more conveniently. 5 star service rating from me. I am looking forward to seeing you again Room Mate Mario!

Great location and staff. Big choice in the breakfast.
The rooms are very basic, small and dark with very small windows. No kettle in the room.
The prices on the weekdays and in low season are reasonable. Otherwise very expensive for such hotel.

We chose this hotel because it was near the square where we met our tour guide for the El Prado Museum and the Madrid Royal Palace. The hotel was perfectly located near restaurants and shops. The room was very comfortable and Elvera at the front desk was SO HELPFUL and sweet. She helped with directions and recommendations.
There was a taxi stand around the corner but she called for a taxi for us when we checked out and needed to get to the airport. Breakfast was not included but was discounted for more that one night stays. Highly recommend this hotel.

We returned here after an absence of a few years to celebrate my husband’s special birthday and so happy we did so. It has been a few years since we last stayed and the excellent standard of service has only improved.
All members of staff at reception are welcoming, professional and friendly. Housekeeping should be commended, our rooms were spotless, the white bedding crisp and comfortable.
The little touches that are usually only found in the smaller hotel are very much appreciated.
A little gem in the heart of Madrid, in our favourite part of the city, literally 2 minutes walk from Opera metro and the bustling, vibrant heart of this fabulous city.
