Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We used to go to the Riddiford for Yum Cha once Andrews closed down, but the constant level of disgusting customer service from the owners finally put us off our food and made us leave the restaurant, never to return.
It's like the owners do not know they are in the service and hospitality industry, because they are definitely not hospitable towards their paying customers at all.
Be warned, if you come here it can ruin your day like it has for us.

Absolutely revolting with a pungent odour of filthiness. Stained carpet which looked as if it has never been cleaned or vacuumed, dirty bedding & bathroom and 9 years of dust collecting on windows, curtains and skirting. We checked out after 10 minutes of arriving. Couldn't pay me to stay there.

Planned to stay for three nights during labor weekend... no turn down service, didn't clean our room, didn't replace towels, didn't vacuum, didn't have a working phone (it was only there for looks lol), no wifi or sky (even though it's advertised on the building itself) and the list goes on.

The worse part was when we were making the complaints we asked for our bond and Sunday nights payment (like hell were we gonna stay the another night) which they did give back to us but they didn't really wanna hear what we had to say.

But wait, it gets worse!!! As we were getting ready to leave the car park... the owners and their teenage son comes outside to harass us. The teen was busy calling us all the names under the sun while the owners did nothing to stop him but threaten us that they are going to call the police. I videoed the entire incident on the low so I want scared... we didn't do anything. Wish I could upload video. Damn

Dirty dirty dirty! I think this hotel just had Chinese tour groups and truck drivers as their main customers. The restaurant doesn't have the wine on the wine list and the food is terrible! Avoid this place. It's shocking and as a New Zealander I feel ashamed that this exists!

This would be the worst hotel we have stayed in. The toilet leaked so they moved rooms. The next room the window had been leaking for a long time and there was a towel by the window to mop up the water. Curtains were mouldy, carpet was filthy and we could not wait to leave. The hotel needs the health and safety inspectors in. Avoid at all costs.
The photos on the various websites are very deceptive but do not be fooled.

This was a very basic Hotel which is reflected in the price. The rooms were clean but are very noisy - everytime someone in the next room used the toilet or shower you were woken up. The Front Office people were not very friendly and they have a big Alsatian Dog who was allowed in the Restaurant and dining area in the evenings. We did not get our room serviced one day because they were hosting a stall at the Americarna Market Day and on another day they forgot to leave us Cups so no coffee for us that day. There is no SKY TV and the towels are very thin. The Internet is also very expensive. The only positive is its location in the heart of Lower Hutt

Sleeping Waterloo railway station would have been a better choice . Intermittent tv reception Dirty room , floor not vacuumed , toilet wouldn’t flush properly and kept regurgitating flushed contents . Mould in shower , basin and floor . Worst of all , human hair in and on the bed , and what I’m guessing to be bodily fluid stains on the carpet either side of the bed .

As you enter you are greeted by a stack of broken plant stands to the right of the doorway. The reception counter looks welcoming from a distance. As you book in, the scuffily dressed receptionist takes your details but there is no welcome comment or facial expression. Behind the desk are boxes of paperwork and overflowing waste paper bins. As you turn away you see on one side, a member of the family reclining on the lounge with ipod in hand. One assumes he relocated to the othe side of the room due to the piles of orange peel building up over time behind the single chair.
As we headed to the room the stench from the stairwell was overpowering. When querying the source we were told "broken pipe from kitchen, fix in couple of days".
The room was compact, no milk , kettle with no way of filling it, ironing board with no iron, extra pillows approximately 7 feet up on top shelf of cupboard and only accesable by using a swivel office chair. Newly decorated bathroom was very clean but the location of the toilet paper holder was above head height and behind cistern. Note this was a disability unit. The view from the room to the kitchen area and yard below resembled a scrap metal yard as the discarded ovens, deep fryers and woks had been there for some years. Took the chance to eat in the on site restaurant and had to describe requirements to waitress who asked another employee to translate.
Beautiful light fittings were spoilt by the addition of the compulsory Chinese paper lanterns suspended irregularly from them using chains made from used paper clips.
The only enjoyable part of our stay was the location and price.

The location was very close to all locations we wanted. The room was clean, warm and tidy. We did not experience any hot water problems as some others had complained of. The rooms were a bit smaller than some hotel rooms, but so was the price. The hosts went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. We were there early in the week but found that all traffic noise stopped around 10pm and didn't start again until about 7.00am. One item that we did miss was a stool or seat to sit on or place suitcases on other than the bed although this may have cluttered the room unnecessarily. The food in their restaurant was fantastic.

Great location central to Hutt City. Room well serviced, quiet and restful. Decor a little tired in places, reasonably clean and tidy.
Compact room. The main issue we had was with the hot water system which was temperamental starting off with hot showers that fairly quickly went to warm - like there was insufficient hot water available. Also quite a bit of "tap noise" from adjoining rooms. Restaurant service was good. Menu covered a good range of "Chinese" meals and staff showed good understanding of Gluten free requirements.
Overall the only real complaint was the poor hot water system that needs attention!
