Perfect apartments

Reviewed Jan 7, 2024
Booked to stay at the Hollywood Suites for 10 days in December. The apartment was exactly as described, comfortable and perfect for us. The owners have really thought of everything you might need on holiday which made the stay very easy considering the remoteness of North Caicos. The washer and dryer were a big plus ( detergent etc provided ) but sadly we hadn't realised there was a dishwasher too and we didn't bring tablets for it :-( Alveda was really lovely and helpful and cooked us a delicious meal on our first evening. We did however opt to leave earlier than planned because we were really unlucky with the weather which was very very, windy and quite wet. This meant we couldn't swim / snorkel at all because it was too rough everywhere ( or strong currents ) and couldn't spend any time relaxing on the beaches or the deck outside the apartment. We did find shelter on the beach at Sandy point but the water was too fast flowing to swim out. We eventually went back to Provo early for a few nights to explore there. There are a few local restaurants on North Caicos which you needed to call ahead to arrange to eat at but they were completely empty which felt very strange. The only exception was the Barracuda just along the beach where we saw a few other people and didn't need to book, food was excellent. Ate at Miss B's Bayside Cafe a few times and definitely recommend the snapper, lobster and delicious cakes and deserts. Overall a great stay just restricted by the bad weather. Highly recommended and would definitely stay there again if visiting Turks and Caicos.

Another great trip to Hollywood on the North. They have everything you need including beach chairs, thick beach towels, great A/C, kitchen and screened in porch.
A short walk along the beach to the Barracuda Beach Bar. Rent a car and travel to Mudjin, Bambarra, etc…
Your host, the lovely Alveda, will cook for you and arrange any extras. She is the best.
The North is special, check it out.
    Can’t wait to come back.

Room tip: Bring bug spray, maybe the coils that can ward away small no see um bugs A small price to pay for world renown beaches and tranquility.

Visited North Caicos in early Oct and stayed at Hollywood Beach Suites. Great place for those who like quiet, a beautiful beach, very nice but not over the top comfort and being able to meet locals over dinner or while out on a walk. This is not a Provo resort but it was perfect for a couple who wanted to chill for 4 nights. Only a few dining options BUT Alveda, the highly rated manager, cooked for us a home made meal on two nights (ribs and cracked lobster). She is at your call for whatever you need and is very sweet. We kayaked, snorkeled, and walked up to Barracuda Bar as well as rented a car for 2 days to see Middle Caicos. North and Middle Caicos are quiet but beautiful but don’t come here if you are looking for a big beach resort.

I never heard of it until my client chose the place to get married. It’s quaint, serene, on the beach with unobstructed views. Full kitchen, king bedroom with bath, washer/dryer and an amazing screened in porch offering quiet sounds and views of the waves beating against the shores. It’s an excellent place for quiet time. No staff, but you’re greeted by the Manager who gives you the grand tour, then she allows you to enjoy paradise! She will cook a native meal for you too. My wedding couple was very happy and an Event Planner I highly recommend it!

I had difficulty rating this one. I try to judge things compared to what they are supposed to be. So, let me begin with, if you are a person that prefers nice, clean resorts, with all amenities (pool, restaurant, bar all onsite, beach service, etc.), then this is NOT the place for you. My wife and I occasionally like those things too and there is nothing wrong with that, it's just that this is not that type of place. In fact, North and Middle Caicos, in general, are not those kinds of places. Those are all over on Providenciales (Provo) at Grace Bay.
However, if you're the least bit adventuresome and don't mind a little grit with your paradise, then this is the place for you. I'm attaching pictures for you to see the stunning scenery. However, what it doesn't show is that on this mile and half of turquoise water beach front, we saw two other couples in a total of six days. We virtually had the entire beach all to ourselves. I can't stress enough that it has a little grit and few amenities, but it has everything you need (or Alvita will get it for you... more on that later), and is like having a piece of paradise all to yourself. Here are some bullet points and tips:
    1. It is a suite with full-size refrigerator, stove, microwave, small kitchen with all utensils and small appliances. There is a couch and chairs. There is a TV, but it only serves to play movies from the DVD selections there. Bedroom is small, but with a very comfortable king bed. Both bath and beach towels are provided. Also has a screened in front porch facing the beach. Large, nice gas grill 10 steps outside.
    2. There is no beach service (chairs, umbrellas) but they do provide about everything else, including a kayak.
    3. Rent a car! Unless you are just going to stay on property the whole time (and if you're going to do that, go to one of the big resorts on Provo), to get around you really need a car. The hotel provides bikes, which can get you to two of the restaurants (Barracudas and Silver Palm) and the one local small grocery (KJ's), but I still recommend a car. Small cars run $65/day, small SUVs run $75/day. Gas is expensive ($6.50/ gallon), but with the small cars and the islands being fairly small, that isn't a problem. 5 gallons did us in a small sedan for the whole trip. Part of the experience of North Caicos is the people, so go explore! There is only one main road, so virtually impossible to get lost. Alvita can arrange for one to be brought to the hotel for no extra charge.
    3. Bring sunscreen with bug repellant. The gnats and flies aren't too bad, but can be just enough to be annoying. Hotel provides a can of Off!, but since you're going to use sunscreen anyway, bring some with the repellant built in.
    4. The water is turquoise as toothpaste and looks like a postcard. There is a decent wind blowing most days which makes the waves a little choppy, but since you're inside the reef, the waves are not big, just choppy.
    5. Groceries... okay, you definitely will want to make a grocery store run before getting to the hotel or shortly after. Since you'll land in Provo the question is to buy there before ferrying to North Caicos or wait until you get there. The prices are similar (expensive as hell... most things are between 1.5 to 2 times normal cost in the States) in either place. Provo might be slightly cheaper, but if so not by much. However, the trade off is convenience of lugging the groceries on the ferry but with a lot more selection vs. less selection, but you can bike to the store. Hotel provides salt, pepper, cooking spray, one gallon of water (you can't drink the tap water) and one bottle of complimentary wine.
    6. Alvita is a hands on manager/owner. She is not the most talkative person, nor does she offer a lot of unsolicited advice. However, if asked, she can answer anything, provide anything, and connect you with anyone. For a nominal fee, she will even come and cook for you... but you have to ask. Also, everyone on North Caicos island knows her, sho if you're somewhere on ther island and need something, just say, "I'm staying with Alvita" and it will make an immediate connection.
Overall, I highly recommend this place as a great getaway. It's not a 5* property, but I gave it five stars because if this is what you're looking for and you're able to fend for yourself the least little bit, the tradeoff of getting your own very private paradise is well worth it.

Climate Perfect low 70 night 80 day - winds light - we did get lucky tho as the day we left the winds were howling at over 20 knots and the forecast was more of the same for 5 or 6 days -
Water Temp: 78 great for swim or snorkel
Beach - Beautiful for walking and you had it it pretty much to youself
The Resort: No fancy but functional - and the bed was great - we never used the air conditioner - had the unit open from the screen porch back and slept to the sound of the waves= The property manager Alvada was very helpful and the dinner she prepared for us the first night was really good and we actually made 2 meals out of it
Dining - We only ate dinner out once and that was at the Last Chance - pricy but very good -
Activities - we went to Middle Caicos for lunch and did the tour of the cave - lunch was wonderful with a terrific view - I would not recommend the cave tour - cost 20 each and nothing much to see except the getting bit my various insects
Fishing and Snorkeling - both great - we had a fun day with Dedrick - including spearing lobster for dinner - Our bonefish trip was a bust - but it was on the blood moon and for some reason the fish were not on the flats - but it is called fishing not catching
Summary: If you like to relax, read, walk the beach, fish etc then I would highly recommend this place - However if the night life and lots of activities then this is not for you!!!

Room tip: I would get a end unit either 1 or 4 -
