The restaurant was amazing with very good food. The housing options varied tremendously. Make sure to arrive during operation hours of the resturant where you check in. We arrived late and had no idea of where our room was. One night we came back late to discover we had no power. That meant our outdoor shower was ice cold as the water heater was not powered:( Our room was fair to poor but our friends rooms were cute and comfortable.
Can't speak for accommodations as we only came for lunch and a drink at the dock, but it more than met expectation! I had taken a horse tour with them last time I came to El Remate, so I suggested it for lunch now. The cooking turned out to be superb, good ingredients, proper French food and real bread! Drinks were also good and best enjoyed at their private dock. And the low prices made it more than fair! Q50 for a great meal is a steal in a location where you're more likely to find tourist traps than authentic home cooking.. Bravo! We'll be back
At this point of our journey we hadn’t stopped to almost rest anywhere and this place was a great place to rest and recover. The story of this place plays a large part of its character. His hotel started as a small project and continues to grow. We had a good time here. The monkeys didn’t stop growling, therm game the rain and we thought this was a great place to spend the time. It’s far from everything, there is not much to do around, so if that is what you are looking for, this is great.
We arrived at Mon Ami after a long journey. Had a lovely welcome from Elizabet who helped us with our spanish practice. We had booked a private room with bathroom and were shown to a beautiful cabin in the back garden area. Spacious, clean with a half my and hammock. Great beds and views into the trees with hummingbirds every morning at the window. The lake is so refreshing and clean to swim in...the best natural swimming pool and a lovely dock to swim out from. Only slight criticism would be the restaurant. Menu was basic..European style..pasta, fish ..nothing notable but fine. Specials did not change during the week we were there but there are other places nearby, local or expat.
I’d heard there was this great French restaurant in the Petén. They said it was called Mon Ami. We made a point of going there for lunch. Honestly, nothing at all special. Ok, they didn’t serve beans, & tortillas, or Jocon, Pepian,hot dogs & Nachos. But honesty, don’t go out your way to eat there. Looks like most any other hostel to me. Meh....
