PRICEY BUT I WOULD DO IT AGAIN

Reviewed Aug 18, 2020
We went to celebrate my 50th birthday. I wanted to get a way from all of this "covid" stuff and walked right into it. That aside, I will leave my review below.

The property was absolutely beautiful and well-maintained. That can not be taken away. Under normal circumstances, you could spend the entire time without having to leave at all for anything. That point is noted and appreciated.

$32 per day to park is a bit excessive, in my opinion, given the price of the lodging. If you plan on staying and never leaving during your stay, I would strongly suggest finding transportation to the property. We flew in and took time to sight see around Nashville, so, we needed a car for that. However, $32 was a bit much.

At the time of booking, I was made to feel that I had no other option but to purchase the Sound Waves package for our entire 3 day stay. THAT IS NOT TRUE!! You can purchase day passes as hotel guests! Non hotel guests, were purchasing day passes our entire stay. There never seemed to be an "at capacity limit". This is where the hotel was deceitful. We did not spend much time at Sound Waves. There was not much excitement to it for the cost. I would recommend that you ask for a full breakdown of the cost of purchasing when registering versus when you get there. Don't buy into the "you may not be able to get a pass when you arrive". There didn't seem to be a problem and there were a lot of people there each day.

For all the additional fees and costs of staying there, housekeeping should not be limited. I ordinarily don't like housekeeping to enter my rooms when I stay anywhere, so, that wasn't a real problem for me. However, given how much it costs to stay here, there should NOT have been a restriction on having your room clean.

Overall, my family and I enjoyed our stay. We would stay again. I went to relax and have fun and that was accomplished. Spent money is spent money. There is no need to really cry about it now.

Room Tip: They want to charge $50 to have a balcony view. I don't see the point. You might.

We bought the Sound Waves package and visited Saturday, August 8. I was worried about it being too crowded, but we didn’t have any issues. We didn’t think any shops or restaurants would be open besides Cascades, but there were several open in the evening. The morning time was very peaceful.
Navigating was hard, but there was always an employee around to direct us. We were able to check our bags in the lobby and then enjoy Sound Waves all day. My 4 year old and 22 month old really enjoyed it, so we would go back!

We love having staycations at Opryland! The parlor suite is our favorite type of room to stay in. It fits our family of four perfectly.
The room was very clean and we were impressed with the way the resort took cleanliness seriously. We never felt unsafe and already booked our next trip in a few weeks. There were a few restaurants closed and no room service, but there were still plenty of food options.

We had planned to stay three nights while we moved our daughter to Nashville. Beware, the website does not explain the additional fees or that most of the hotel is closed. They charge $32.00 to park in an open lot! $20.00 for a resort fee, really are you Las Vegas now? Right now plan to go else where for food and bar options as 90% of the hotel venues are closed. The waterpark is at least $60 extra per person (this is not clearly identified on their website). Overall an overpriced and overhyped resort.

Hello, and thanks for your feedback.

We charge a resort fee on all guest rooms, and we do not provide free parking if you choose to bring a vehicle to the resort. We're sorry that this was unclear, and we will continue to review our communications--however, this information is on the webpage, it is disclosed in the confirmation email, and it is presented as part of the key package upon check-in. The waterpark is also not included, as you indicated--it is an additional cost if you choose to visit the park. The only way to guarantee admission to SoundWaves is to book a SoundWaves package, but we do offer day passes to other guests of the hotel based upon availability.

We do have a number of restaurant closures. We have re-opened after being closed for three months with limited availability. Our Cascades American Café is open for Breakfast and Dinner, and our Delta Marketplace and Paisano’s Pizza are open for carry out and contactless delivery. Additionally, we have been opening two other dine-in restaurants on weekends only, and dining is available in the SoundWaves waterpark. Our in-room dining is also available for delivery options. We also have independent vendors—Auntie Anne’s pretzels, Cinnabon, and Bravo Gelato—that offer a variety of foods as well. We have tried to provide variety for our guests, and I sincerely apologize if you were misinformed about this in any way before or after your arrival.

Thank you again for your visit, and thanks for providing helpful feedback.

The Opryland resort itself is designed beautifully. However, all the little extras you pay for wind up bilking you out of every last penny, even though you pay a fair amount just to stay here. Parking is $32/day--even if you're a guest at the hotel, which significantly increases the cost of your stay. The restaurants on site are okay but they provide small portions and charge upscale prices. There was no housekeeping during our stay which meant no fresh towels, fresh beds, or replaced items that we used. The toilet in our room had a bad handle and constantly ran and the stopper in the tub continually malfunctioned and caused water to begin filling the tub during our showers. To top our visit off, when we got to our car on the morning we checked out someone had broken into our car by bashing in the passenger side window. As we looked around we could see numerous other vehicles were hit, too (I counted three others and someone I met in the lot said they counted 10 other cars that were broken into). I was astonished that they charge so much for parking in their lot and yet their security was unable to adequately monitor the vehicles. They have numerous signs throughout the lot saying they are not responsible for damage to vehicles...yeah right. I would have given this stay a 1-star, however, the hotel manager did quite a bit to make up for the whole ordeal with our car. I felt that his earnest desire to try to compensate us was worth an additional star. All in all we would not stay here again. Our kids had a great time but it was a nightmare for us.

Hello---

I am SO sorry that this happened to you, and I'm glad our manager was able to make steps to make this right with you that clearly had a significant effect. We appreciate you bringing these items to our attention as far as the room goes. We monitor and review our fees and prices to stay in line with the industry and similar properties. We try to assure both value and quality through these resort prices, and we will continue to review. Thank you for your visit and your feedback, and again, our sincere apologies for the crime that was committed against your vehicle. Rest assured the case has been submitted to the proper authorities.

Thanks,

I'm a native of Nashville so doing a staycation at Gaylord Opryland is always a treat.

The arrival bell staff was very friendly. The wait at check-in was a tad long, even for an elite Bonvoy Member.

If you aren't familiar with the property, ask for directions - it's large and you don't want to get lost. Once you get the hang of the layout, it's actually pretty easy to navigate.

The room itself it pretty average for the higher end Marriott products. Nothing over the top for sure. The bathroom was small but did offer double sinks and a walk-in shower. The balcony with the view of Cascades was very nice and worth the extra price.

Several of the sit-down restaurants are still closed due to pandemic, but there were enough eating options both on the property and a short distance away.

The spa is only open weekends for now, so I didn't plan ahead on that one.

The water park is nice if you're traveling with young people, but if you're by yourself or in a group of older travelers, the standard pools will likely be fine for you - and they are much more quiet. Standard pool offering is one indoor, one outdoor and a hot tub.

Room tip: get a room with an interior view - trust me - you'll want that.
