Quick Weekend Away

Reviewed Jul 13, 2020
Spent 2 nights at the resort so our granddaughters could enjoy Soundwaves water park. We were a little leery about making the trip but after reading some reviews and talking with the hotel about their Covid-procedures we decided to make the trip. We have stayed at the hotel a couple of times in the past and was familiar with food choices and the rather high cost ($32.00/night) to park. The water park was the main draw and the only way to use it is to be a guest at the hotel. We knew ahead of time that there wouldn't be a lot of food options (which wasn't too bad since it's incredibly expensive to dine there anyway). It would have been nice to have the Starbucks open and breakfast options are limited. We chose to eat at Opry Mills since there were a lot more food options. Very few shops were open and services are limited. Registration took a little longer than normal because of the distancing that is in place. I have to admit, it's sometimes a struggle to understand what staff is staying due to the masks they wear but all the employees at the hotel are very accommodating and extremely pleasant to deal with. We took the Delta Riverboat cruise and our granddaughters enjoyed it. Not sure it was worth the price we paid for 15 minutes but the employees working there made it a very enjoyable experience. The Soundwaves experience was well worth what we paid. It was very well maintained, the staff was very conscientious about cleaning and we didn't feel uncomfortable at all. It offers a lot of different things to do and as a guest you can take advantage of the facility from the day you check in until the day you check out. We decided to rent a cabana and it ended up being a wise decision and worth the extra money. Ordering food was very pricey and the menu is somewhat limited. I had read some reviews saying the hotel wasn't clean but the only issue we had with cleanliness is the tub in our room wasn't as clean as it should have been. The hotel had staff continually sanitizing and there is staff at every location in the hotel passing out masks and doing a good job of reminding people masks were required. Even though it was a pricey weekend trip we are glad we went.

Was walking around and things look horrible. Hopefully they are doing a better job sanitizing and cleaning for coronavirus but it is a little bit hard to believe when the hotel is in disarray with trash and junk around. Couldn’t even use the bathroom. DISGUSTING

Good afternoon--

I don't know what area you were in--we have special dedicated sanitizing teams (you may have seen them dressed in all-white). In accordance with Marriott’s “Commitment to Clean” practices, the resort is providing enhanced cleaning technology, hospital-grade disinfectants, attendants dedicated to sanitizing frequently throughout the day, new social distancing protocols, and hundreds of new cleaning processes designed to keep our guests safe while they enjoy the resort’s amenities.

We appreciate you bringing your experience to our attention, and I will pass your notes along to our housekeeping team. We are running with a smaller staff and limited availability, but our pursuit of flawless service and a clean and safe resort has not diminished.

Thanks,

The Gaylord Opryland is one of the most impressive indoor spaces around. There are winding walkways, waterfalls, gardens, restaurants, and it’s air conditioned. This is a must see if you are in Nashville.

Brought my 17yr old daughter for Mother/Daughter getaway. I did check the website prior to coming and I was hoping it was wrong about what was open and closed. But it was accurate. Wanted to do spa services but only open on weekends. There is only one sit down dining option and rest are quick service. We went to Cascades and were told it was buffet only. Food was good but on par with what you would be served at a convention. $25 a person. We went to the Delta Marketplace for the remainder of our visit. I did order room service through website and it was delivered timely. Breakfast choices are pretty limited though.

It was a bit depressing to walk around and see all the closed restaurants and shops. I know they are doing the best they can in a tough time but when they are clearly not even close to 100%, it was frustrating to pay full price for amenities. I was offered an atrium upgrade. The room is lovely and view is great but the upgrade was not discounted in any way.

The staff was friendly and helpful at all points. High praise. I used the Marriott Bonvoy app to chat and was immediately answered. Requested more toilet paper and received it quickly.

We spent a bit of time at SoundWaves and it was very clean. Only bar that was open was outside and I only felt like making that trek once.

My only call out to mgmt is to recognize that the resort is not up to speed yet and give us early adopters a better deal. I can't imagine bringing my larger family of 6 here without having to bring our own food and drinks. So expensive!

Still glad we came!

Before our long weekend here, I called to check on amenities and daily operations of the hotel since Nashville was just moved back in phase 2 of Covid restrictions. I was told at least 3 restaurants would be open, limited cleaning was being offered, and the hotel was not operating at full capacity. We were fine with those options and were excited to go spend a few days with our kids at Soundwaves. Check in was slow and we quickly realized that what I had been told on the phone was not true. Almost no amenities are being offered and only 2 sit down restaurants were open- Cascades is only offering a buffet of 3 meats and 2 vegetables all at the regular buffet prices and the Jack Daniels restaurant had an almost 2 hour wait both nights we tried to go there. Additionally, the hotel staff was not enforcing the city-wide mask mandate.

On Saturday, July 4th, the water park was packed. There is no possible way all of the people there were guests at the hotel! Families were using the dining tables of Decibels as places to keep their belongings, leaving no shaded, outdoor tables for people to eat.

The rates are not discounted and until all restrictions are lifted and the hotel is operating at 100%, don't waste your money!

HI Allison--

We appreciate your visit and your review. We are offering at least three restaurants, but not for dine-in service. We are happy to offer to-go and contactless delivery service. Cascades is now offering the full menu. The only way to gain access to SoundWaves, our waterpark, is to be a guest of the hotel. It is not open to the general public. All restrictions are in keeping with Marriott's Committed to Clean program and local regulations.

I apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience that you experienced during your stay, and we certainly hope you will be back when we are back up to full capacity.

Thanks,

The property is super huge. Trust me the “you are here signs” come in handy. Each section has its own character. I loved the music in the center. The entire staff are extremely helpful. The front desk is very friendly upon your arrival. The rooms are super comfortable and are spacious. You are conveniently located next to the Grand ‘Ol Opry. If you want to go downtown, it is about 15 minutes. The hotel took major precautions to make sure its guests are safe during this pandemic. If you have a car, make sure you call down. It can be a short wait. This stay was part of our 25th wedding anniversary. The hotel made our stay very satisfied.
