We stayed here for 2 nights - the first 2 of the June reopening after the Covid shutdown. I hadn't visited in almost 7 years, so it was nice to be back. It was super clean and quite empty in most of the facility. SoundWaves is really nice and clean, which is extra important nowadays, and it was super fun for our kids. The arboretum is amazing too--we didn't leave the hotel except for breakfast one day, and really we should've just stayed on property. We overpaid for parking, of course, $32/day and definitely not a full lot so that's sort of annoying. Enough restaurants were open to provide us with enough to eat and drink--I'm not going to call them a great value because it was $17 for a tiny pizza at SW, but the food was tasty, at least. The only issue that happened is that I requested a crib at checkin, and it hadn't arrived by the time we returned to the room at bedtime. I called to ask, and 45 min later the creakiest, squeakiest metal crib on earth was delivered to our room. We tried it, but we couldn't use it. Our toddler did not get to sleep. I called for another crib, and instead of bringing it, a staff person CAME IN OUR ROOM (our room that not even housekeeping entered because of Covid and all) to double check that I was accurate about the problem. So, once we had proof of a truly problematic crib and that I was not some crazy complainer (just some lady trying to sleep), we had to wait another half hour for another crib. Then the toddler went to sleep and all was well. So, I know they are understaffed, but that was kind of crazy, especially since the hotel capacity is limited and there ought to be plenty of non-rattling cribs available and I'm sure that guy who ensured the crib had a problem probably had other things to do. Maybe he had a screwdriver on him? If so, he didn't try that.
All in all, the hotel staff was excellent about following COVID/CDC protocol--I think one lifeguard had the mask on below the nose. My 6-year old did find some er, bachelorette-party-themed confetti on the carpet of the room, so perhaps the vacuuming wasn't so thorough during the 3 months without guests? The hallway carpet looked new, though. We did wipe our own table before gelato as it appeared that only one staff member was in charge of serving from that venue and strangely, no one else was around to clean.
Most other guests were not wearing masks in public spaces (not counting restaurants), and maybe that reflects the regional attitudes, but I wish that Opryland would encourage masks more because that is the current CDC recommendation, you know, to reduce transmission of a terrible illness. Forget about masks at SoundWaves, though. You'll get them wet and the indoor area is stuffy. It was easy to distance there, minus the staircases for slides, and there aren't many older people there.
Friday night there were a lot of people in the Cascades/Falls areas, presumably more than overnight guests (we actually ran into friends there who were not staying at the hotel). It took an hour to get a grilled cheese, my husband's BLT was forgotten about, and then we got an extra kids' meal charge. The Caesar salad was very sad looking and a waste of $12, but everything else was tasty. The server explained that the delay was due to low staffing, which was understandable, and he fixed the problems.
