Dissapointing

Reviewed Jul 1, 2020via mobile
I do not know where to begin. Checking in at 4:45 we went up to the room to find chips crushed up on the bathroom floor and big whole in the comforter cover and broken telephone. After using our cell phone to call the hotel and speaking with the manager she assured us the room would be cleaned and phone fixed while we were out for dinner. Upon returning a few hours later there was still chips on the floor and a broken telephone. After calling and speakibg with the front desk we were told we would be moved to an atrium room that was spotless. We loaded the suitcases and moved to the next room. upon arrival there was a trail of food. How was the checked by a supervisor and "spotless" we were told to wait and the manager would come to see us. After 20
minutes we recieved a call that the manager was busy and we would recieve a call from the house keeper in the morning. It was now 10:40 in the evening and my 6 year old was husterical that she doesnt want to stay in a unsafe hotel. I went down to the front desk and asked to speakwith a manager. This time I went to check the room with her and called my elder mother and children to let then know we are moving again. It is now after 11 in the evening and this began at 5:00 in the afternoon.
You would think that during a pandemic when people are worried there would be extra cleaning measures in place.

Stayed here 3 nights while on Cosmos tour. Tour ended here and I stayed an extra night to enjoy all the hotel has to offer.
I was totally blown away by the experience comingfrom the UK. This place has everything you could want and more.
I was travelling as a woman alone and always felt safe wandering around the complex even in the evening.
I swam in the lap pool which was a little strange being just me with a lifeguard watching. The outdoor jacuzzi was great too. I really enjoyed this area being so tranquil. Sadly I didn't have time to have a beauty treatment.
The water park looked amazing but isn't my thing.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from.
I spent a lot of time getting lost o the amazing atrium areas , even with a map. The plants and waterfalls were awesome. I did the boat ride in the evening to get another perspective.
The sound and light show with the fountains is worth a look too.
I wish I had booked more nights here as it was totally awesome.
I would definitely want to return to Nashville and would stay here again.
Many happy memories.

We stayed here for 2 nights - the first 2 of the June reopening after the Covid shutdown. I hadn't visited in almost 7 years, so it was nice to be back. It was super clean and quite empty in most of the facility. SoundWaves is really nice and clean, which is extra important nowadays, and it was super fun for our kids. The arboretum is amazing too--we didn't leave the hotel except for breakfast one day, and really we should've just stayed on property. We overpaid for parking, of course, $32/day and definitely not a full lot so that's sort of annoying. Enough restaurants were open to provide us with enough to eat and drink--I'm not going to call them a great value because it was $17 for a tiny pizza at SW, but the food was tasty, at least. The only issue that happened is that I requested a crib at checkin, and it hadn't arrived by the time we returned to the room at bedtime. I called to ask, and 45 min later the creakiest, squeakiest metal crib on earth was delivered to our room. We tried it, but we couldn't use it. Our toddler did not get to sleep. I called for another crib, and instead of bringing it, a staff person CAME IN OUR ROOM (our room that not even housekeeping entered because of Covid and all) to double check that I was accurate about the problem. So, once we had proof of a truly problematic crib and that I was not some crazy complainer (just some lady trying to sleep), we had to wait another half hour for another crib. Then the toddler went to sleep and all was well. So, I know they are understaffed, but that was kind of crazy, especially since the hotel capacity is limited and there ought to be plenty of non-rattling cribs available and I'm sure that guy who ensured the crib had a problem probably had other things to do. Maybe he had a screwdriver on him? If so, he didn't try that.
All in all, the hotel staff was excellent about following COVID/CDC protocol--I think one lifeguard had the mask on below the nose. My 6-year old did find some er, bachelorette-party-themed confetti on the carpet of the room, so perhaps the vacuuming wasn't so thorough during the 3 months without guests? The hallway carpet looked new, though. We did wipe our own table before gelato as it appeared that only one staff member was in charge of serving from that venue and strangely, no one else was around to clean.
Most other guests were not wearing masks in public spaces (not counting restaurants), and maybe that reflects the regional attitudes, but I wish that Opryland would encourage masks more because that is the current CDC recommendation, you know, to reduce transmission of a terrible illness. Forget about masks at SoundWaves, though. You'll get them wet and the indoor area is stuffy. It was easy to distance there, minus the staircases for slides, and there aren't many older people there.
Friday night there were a lot of people in the Cascades/Falls areas, presumably more than overnight guests (we actually ran into friends there who were not staying at the hotel). It took an hour to get a grilled cheese, my husband's BLT was forgotten about, and then we got an extra kids' meal charge. The Caesar salad was very sad looking and a waste of $12, but everything else was tasty. The server explained that the delay was due to low staffing, which was understandable, and he fixed the problems.

I have visited Opryland on 3 occasions in the past. This was our first time staying the night. It was absolutely perfect! We were quite concerned about staying in a hotel during an outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19). Opryland exceeded our expectations for following safety protocols.
We spent the night on Saturday, June 27. It was the resort's third night after reopen after being closed since the onset of Coronavirus. We arrived around 1:00pm to take full advantage of our one-night stay. We self-parked in the lot closest to the main entrance, checked in, and a room was already available for us to use immediately. The parking lot closest to the main entrance was never full during the entire 24 hours we were there. For those who have visited in the past, this gives an indication of how empty the hotel was. Parking is pricey at over $30/day.
We opted to take the Delta Riverboat Tour. With the current health restrictions, they allow only two families to ride at a time. They sanitize between each group of people. It was a fine tour with interesting information that could likely have been learned by reading most of the plaques around the river. For our family of four, the 15-minute boat ride put us back $40 with the $1/person discount of staying at the hotel. It was a fine thing to do once.
Many of the restaurants and all but one necessities/gift shop was still closed inside the resort due to the restrictions. If shopping and trying many restaurants are the reason for your visit, you may want to wait until more restrictions have eased. The other option is to walk/drive 0.55 miles to the Opry Mills mall directly behind the resort. We decided to try to get some food there. It was a Saturday night, so keep that in mind, but the mall was packed with people---way too many to social distance. It made us very uncomfortable, even with masks on, and we did not shop.
The gardens inside Opryland were beautiful. There were so few people that social distancing was easy. Even with social distancing, about 1/3 of the patrons were wearing masks. The Delta, Conservatory, and Cascades gardens are each stunning. We spent a lot of time running paths and playing I-Spy with the different flowers.
Even though we went with children, we did not do either swimming pool or the Soundwaves Water Park. We filled up 24 hours with just the gardens and walking around. I recommend the evening fountain show for the kids (see the photo to understand how few people were there). Social distancing was not a problem in the slightest. Our room was a double queen that had a door opening to the Conservatory. Everything was very clean and sanitary. Overall, we had an exceptional stay.

Room tip: We loved staying in a Cascades room which was more centrally located for the places we visited.

Stayed there to attend a concert at the Opry. The place is immense, and provides its own entertainment via shops, restaurants and people watching. Be prepared to walk, and save your money...its pricey, but well worth the trouble.

We visited the Opry Gaylord as part of the Heart of America Show Choir Competition. They’re we’re about 30 schools with a couple thousand kids and their families competing over a long weekend. We appeared to be two other conferences being hosted the same weekend.

The facilities are like a Vegas casino without the casino. Th ere are multiple large scale atriums with canals, water features, gardens and several shopping/dining areas. All were maintained spotlessly.

We upgraded to an atrium suite with big windows over looking one of the main dining and shopping areas. Although they’re was a fairly constant din of sound durning the day it wasn’t intrusive and everything was near silent at night. Housekeeping and service was very good and what you’d expect from a flagship Marriott property.

There are at least seven restaurants on property. We are at a couple including the pizza and burger stands and the Mexican restaurant. The food was good, but wasn’t spectacular. But they were all dealing with huge volumes of people.

Our only two complaints were that the restaurants didn’t seem prepared for the volume and lines to get in or get food were really long. And the hotel rolled the carpets up by 11:00 pm even on the weekend. We weren’t trying to party all night, but couldn’t get a drink after our competitions were done. Not everything needed to be open, but c’mon, it’s Nashville and supposed to be fun, not grandmas on a Tuesday night.

Our 12 year old spent a day at the water park. It was pristinely clean, sunny and both the air and water were appropriately warm without feeling like you were in a chlorine chamber. It was good for a days entertainment for him and a friend.

Overall a really good stay, but they could get the food and restaurant service a little better.
