Review of Super 8 by Wyndham Fort Frances

When I stayed at the Super 8 in Fort Frances it was undergoing renovations. The lobby area was packed full of miscellaneous items that I assume they couldn't store elsewhere. You couldn't sit in that area at all - couldn't even see the furniture. Check in went smoothly for us but other family members had trouble with missing reservations.
When we arrived on Friday there was someone laying new carpet in the 2nd floor hallway. That evening after he was done he and who I assume are other employees were tailgating in the parking lot! Not discreetly either. The carpet guy was later spotted in the elevator very drunk. (He asked my Aunt if she was American or Canadian. When she replied she was Canadian he kissed her on the cheek)! It was just very unprofessional in my opinion to have employees representing the hotel drinking in the parking lot and kissing guests.
The only handicapped parking space in the lot had wood palette's piled in it so it was unusable. When I asked for an extra blanket and pillow I was told I could get another blanket but there were no extra pillows.
I think once the renovations are done it will be much better. Our room appeared to be newly renovated and it was quite nice - though we were supposed to have a microwave in our room and there wasn't one.

One night stay prior to fly in fishing trip . Nice place . A few eateries near including a McDonalds. No renovation work experienced although a sign in the lobby indicated it was still going on. Hotel seemed clean and the staff was very friendly . Breakfast was typical Super8 , nothing special . Price was good for what you got.

Finally the Super 8 is getting a facelift.
There were tractor trailers in the parking lot full of new furniture waiting to be installed...
The room I stayed in had recently been renovated - new carpet (the carpet glue was still very strong), beds, paint and furniture. They hadn't gotten around to installing the new headboards or any art of any type - which gave the room a kind of "odd" feeling.
Hopefully the pool area gets the same type of attention.
The hot tub was broken during our stay. The paint on the ceiling is chipping in large chunks and the pipes are rusty. The pool liner is separating from the concrete behind it. A plastic stair on the ladder out of the pool was cracked, and when I stepped on it the one side snapped dropping me into the pool with a large laceration from the screw on on the bottom of my foot.
Here's hoping.

The place is undergoing renovations, so there was a smell of industrial strength chemicals in the stairway (I use stairs rather than elevator) and, to a lesser extent, in the room. The room was clean and, once the air conditioner was turned on the stagnant, chemical smelling air was cleared out of the room. Staff was friendly and the morning breakfast was standard, but better than the typical Continental Breakfast.
